Commercial Description:
As a continuation of North Coast Brewing Co.’s commitment to quality, our Old Stock Ale is crafted in the tradition of our critically acclaimed Pranqster Belgian Style Golden Ale and Old Rasputin Imperial Stout. It’s brewed with classic floor-malted Maris Otter Pale Malt and Fuggles Hops imported from England, so it’s a beer to be served proudly. Like a fine wine, North Coast’s Old Stock Ale is intended to be laid down. With an original gravity of over 1100 and a generous hopping rate, Old Stock Ale is well-designed to round-out and mellow with age. North Coast Brewing Co. Old Stock Ale is a vintage dated ale. We produce a small quantity each year and it remains available from release date until our stock is depleted.

pre-2006 ABV: 11.4%.
2006 vintages: 11.6% & 13.25%.
2007 vintage: 11.7%.

2003 bottling. Has a mahogany hue with a thin , off white head. Strong caramel raison smell. Lightly carbonated with a syrupy mouthfeel . The flavor is of sticky sweet malts and raisons. Has an interesting spice - alcohol taste to finish. This brew tastes better on the cold side; a strong alcohol taste lowers the drinkability Feb 2004

12oz. bottle. Pours a cloudy, dark amber color with a thin, white head that dissipates quickly. Heavy aromas of plums, cherries, and alcohol with a hint of caramel. Flavor is of plums, apples, cherries and sugar with a slight spicey finish. Mouthfeel is very thin and light. Pretty good stuff.

Bottle. 2007 vintage. Caramelly and malty aroma. Huge malty and fruity flavour. Notes of plum, raisin and peat. Lingering finish, very complex, hoppy bitterness, fruit, alcohol, molasses.

12 oz bottle-pours a tan head and amber/brown color. Aroma is sweet, syrupy medium malt, medium/dark fruit-prune, licorice/molasses, alcohol/boozy-rum/scotch, woody. Taste is sweet, syrupy medium malt, medium/dark fruit-prune, licorice/molasses, alcohol/quite boozy-rum/scotch, woody/spicy hops. OK carbonation. Kind of an English Strong Ale. Sipping. Not my taste and on the fringe for the style.

bottle of 2006 vintage from a trade with hogtownharry. pours deep reddish brown with a fizzy off white head. hard hitting malty sweet aromas. dark fruits, and carmalized suger with noticable hops. flavours are a big blended batch of malts with a rounded bitter finish. alcohol is present but it should be at 13.25%. a very good beer that i enjoyed very much.

2007: Amber with almost no head (due to high alcolhol content?). Big nose, there is butterscotch, burnt sugar and dark chocolate fudge. Some acidity. Taste is butterscotch and sweet licorace. Malty with a lasting hoppy bitterness in the finnish. Lot of dark fruit and hazel. If there is one critisism it is that the acohol comes out a bit too much, I don’t mind fiery brews but one is a little bit too fiery.

Sweet, malty aroma, rather sweet and inviting. The alcohol warming is there, but it is well masked. Maybe a bit too sweet, but an impressive barely wine.

Bottle. Pours clear red with a big off-white head. Some lacing. Sugary sweet one dimensional aroma. Very bitter swet flavor with a roast character in the background. A bit thin in the mouth with a touch of carbonation tingling. Substantial lingering bitterness.
