Commercial Description:
As a continuation of North Coast Brewing Co.’s commitment to quality, our Old Stock Ale is crafted in the tradition of our critically acclaimed Pranqster Belgian Style Golden Ale and Old Rasputin Imperial Stout. It’s brewed with classic floor-malted Maris Otter Pale Malt and Fuggles Hops imported from England, so it’s a beer to be served proudly. Like a fine wine, North Coast’s Old Stock Ale is intended to be laid down. With an original gravity of over 1100 and a generous hopping rate, Old Stock Ale is well-designed to round-out and mellow with age. North Coast Brewing Co. Old Stock Ale is a vintage dated ale. We produce a small quantity each year and it remains available from release date until our stock is depleted.

pre-2006 ABV: 11.4%.

Very nice beer. It ages quite well. The alcohol is present and warm. A ton of caramel and dark hoppy goodness.

2008: The taste is a slight burn of alcohol along with a twang of berries - perhaps cherries and a bit of honey or molasses. It was a bit sweet with the sweetness lasting into the finish which was also bitter.

2008 keg from Gingerman Fort Worth. Cloudy, dark bown pour with a light brown head. Aroma of half baked cookies, yeast, and State Fair caramel apples. Flavor brown sugar, roasted malts, spices, and dark fruit.

On tap at Gman FW. Ruby red color. Clear with a heavy head. Some aged fruit on the nose. Strawberry, plum and oak. Apparently this is the 08 batch so it’s a year old. Taste is fat grape juice that tingles all the way down. Some woody characteristics show up later in the drink but this is pretty solid. Great communion wine.

A 2008 bottle. Poured clear and copper, not all that dark. A short ring of white bubbles. No lacing. The aroma was caramel, fruit and booze. Almost medicinal. The flavor tasted like a caramel apple dipped in vodka. Medium bodied but almost oily. Wasn’t as good as I had hoped.

12 oz bottle of the 2008 vintage. Pours clear amber with a fizzy, fast dissipating head. Aroma of caramel, dark dried fruits and alcohol. The flavor is sweet caramel malt with some light hop bitterness. Medium to full body with average Barley Wine carbonation and a thick syrupy mouth feel. The alcohol is well hidden, doesn’t taste at all like a 12.5%abv beer. Will have to put some of these in the cellar.

Fruity fresh and really nice, well balanced barley wine. The head vanishes quite quickly unfortunately,

This is drinkable. A little sweet for me but after a few sips the alcohol kicks in and it’s all good. I like the darker belgian ales . If this is what a golden ale is all about I don’t think I’ll be buying much more. This is very drinkable and provides a good buzz but my tastes go in a different direction.

Bottle. Pours a deep red with barely any head. Aroma is largely toffee and light fruit such as cherry and apple. Taste is heavy fruit, with a bit of the toffee and noticeable alcohol burn at the end. Definitely a sipping beer, but enjoyable.
