And it tasted very good, probably because I was half in the bag already. JCB (1796), Durham, North Carolina, USA

Time was, this was one of the only decent brews that somehow snuck into the 6%abv state of NC, and it was easy to overestimate it then (a function of the abv, no doubt). But honestly, this is one of North Coast’s few missteps to me. It has nice candied malts in the nose, with a trace of yeast. But the relatively thin body brings to mind the adjective syrupy, which is how this beer leans too much of the time - sweet and slick, without enough other flavors to balance. zombywoof (362), Shawnee, Kansas, USA

| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Aug 8, 2008 Updated: Feb 4, 2009The drawing on the label is a hoot - a satirical take on old portraits of big feasts. And who is the guy on the lower right - the brewer? The artist? There is a nice nose on this orange brew - hoppy, floral, and astringent. It has a light head and leaves spotty suds on the glass. The flavor is no disappointment - it is full of sweet malt and solidly hopped. Pranqster provides some of the best of two worlds (Belgian ales & American craft brews). It has the unique Belgian flavor that their yeasts provide (feel free to send me a correction if I am getting this wrong), touches of sweet orange, and a little hefeweizen flavor too. This is as good a Yankee abbey ale as I’ve had, and the best thing I’ve tried from North Coast Brewing. patrick820 (69), San Luis Obispo, California, USA
