Commercial Description:
Named for the delicate engravings popularized by 19th century seafarers, Scrimshaw is a fresh tasting Pilsner brewed in the finest European tradition from Munich and Klages malts, Hallertauer and Tettnang hops. Scrimshaw has a subtle hop character, a crisp, clean palate, and a dry finish.

Pours a caramel color, dark for a pils, medium white sudsy head and some bubbles. Aroma was nice, hops, sweet malt and somewhat grassy. Sweet malts really overpower the crisp hops... hides them but you can tell they are under there. The body is bleh but the carbonation is good. Bitter finish. Averge.

Pours clear and gold. Moderate white head with decent retention. Earth, slightly spice nose. Decent malt/bitterness balance. An average pilsner. Thanks Carsten for the beer!

Bottle. Poured with a half finger off white head, body a cloudy copper color. Very grassy earthy nose. Slightly thin or watery in the mouth, but acceptable hop flavor for a pils. I’ve had better and worse, but overall, fairly average.

Draft. Looks pretty good, slim head with a relatively orange body for a pils. Fairly thin in the mouth, it strikes me as distinctly lacking even for a pilsener. Good orange rind, but fairly yawnable especially for the east-coast price.

Bottle poured into pint glass. Lovely clear golden beer with perfect carbonation and a creamy white head. Malty aroma and nice hop flavour with a short crisp finish. Good pils.

12-oz. Brilliant crystal clear light gold. Towering sudsy platinum blonde head with no shortage of bubbles and cascading lace. Big grassy nose. Watery, still body. Not much flavor. Not sure if I am picking up much of anything at all, honestly--grasses, a bit of corn sweetness and maybe some white bread. But that would all be stretching. Pleasant-enough training wheels beer for the right person, maybe.

12oz Bottle - Gravity Room - Olympia, WA
Aroma – Light malt aroma with some hops in the nose.
Appearance – Light golden yellow in color, clear and a thin head.
Flavor – A light pilsner flavor that was crisp, cold and easy to drink.
Palate – Nice for the night easy drinking nothing too special.
Overall –this was a easy beer to drink had a nice name the beer drank easy with very little flavor other than the malt.

I was rather unimpressed with this pilsner. It was very malty, lacked much in the way of hop character, and tasted a bit cardboard-y to me. I had this at a hotel bar during some recent travel. The bottle has no packaging or pull date, so I’m left to assume it was fresh from the brewery. This beer poured an amber color in my pint glass with a pretty abundant head of large bubbles. Aroma was faintly of hops, but also had a fair amount of somewhat caramel-y maltiness. Flavor was disappointingly not bitter, and had strong malt and wet brown cardboard flavors. Mouthfeel was unremarkable. There are a lot of great beers out there, but I wouldn’t include this one among them based on this experience. Not recommended.
