Commercial Description:
Named for the delicate engravings popularized by 19th century seafarers, Scrimshaw is a fresh tasting Pilsner brewed in the finest European tradition from Munich and Klages malts, Hallertauer and Tettnang hops. Scrimshaw has a subtle hop character, a crisp, clean palate, and a dry finish.

Clear golden color with half inch white head. Aroma of pale/grain malts and maybe, if I really concentrate, a faint hoppiness. Flavor seems to be all malts such as pale, grainy, caramel and hay-like.

Well.... not a Pilsner. Amber body with white head that did not last. Nose was yeast, more then anything. Taste was grainy, nothing super duper here.

Pours with an ever so lightly hazy, orangish tinged, full gold color. It is topped by a frothy, initially two-finger thick, dirty white colored head. Wow and interesting hop aroma is on this Pilsner; it is actually citrusy, like a sweet lemon pie filling. Dry, lightly toasted malt aromatics come through & especially lead towards the end of the aroma. The dominant character up front though is that sweet lemon-like citrus note.

Dry up front, yet it does have a lightly sweet maltiness to it that becomes more noticeable towards the finish where it accentuates a sweet citrus note. This has a solid bitterness to it as well that at times is subservient to the other flavor notes, but ultimately is the strongest finisher. Light and refreshing on the palate, but this beer seems to be missing what I need in a great Pilsner. More malt would certainly help quite a bit, and the hops, while at a nice level, seem to be a bit too one dimensional. This beer needs a bit more flavor for me to actually want to purchase this one again.

Bottle. Not a bad pilsner at all. Pours a bit cloudy with bright foam. Crisp as a pilsner should be. Slight bite. $1.49/12 oz bottle.

The bottle poured an orangey-amber with a bit of chill haze, and a small, short lived, although sticky, cream colored head. The aroma is very mild, citrusy yeast. The flavor is a bit spicy, but not as much as other pilseners I’ve had, with a moderately bitter carbonated bite. Subtle acid forefront with full, dry finish. Nice.

Bottle. Pours cloudy yellow orange, thin off white head. Aroma is citrus, coriander, and malt. Flavor is the same and mediocre.

Likable enough - very little on the nose but more hoppy than most pilseners. A touch of yeast and a little toased malt flavor on the palate. Balanced, even, and true to the style.
