Commercial Description:
Named for the delicate engravings popularized by 19th century seafarers, Scrimshaw is a fresh tasting Pilsner brewed in the finest European tradition from Munich and Klages malts, Hallertauer and Tettnang hops. Scrimshaw has a subtle hop character, a crisp, clean palate, and a dry finish.

Bottle. Pours pretty much like you would think it should, pale yellow with a white foamy head. Leading the aroma was a funky sourness followed by sweet corn and mild hops. The taste, thankfully, did not have any of the sour notes in the aroma but was a bit bland with very mild hopping. If it were not for the aroma I might have rated this higher.

Bottle: Smells hoppy and malty with a hint of yeast and dough. Poured yellowish color. Slightly cloudy. Small white head. Very small lacing. Flavor of banana, corriander, and honey. Light body. Thin texture. Fizzy carbination. Bitter, slightly dry finish. A bit musty. Overall a mediocre pils, but drinkable.

12z bottle. Clear and golden hue. Two fingers of white head. Buttery, woody aroma. Body is light and crisp. Slight bubblegum note. Nice dry effervescent finish. Honey and apples. Quite refreshing.

Pours a nice golden yellow. Aromas of malts, hops. Crisp hop bitterness and dry finish. Tatses like a typical pilsner, I expected more from North Coast.

Pilseners are generally not my favorite beers, but this one was reasonably flavorful. The head left something to be desired. Not a ton of hops either which was kind of disappointing. I’ve gotta say, this is one of the cooler names for a beer though: "Scrimshaw." I actually have a friend at school who carves bones.

Very small hops. This reminds me wine. crisp and clean just like the commercial description says.Just doesn’t have that bite I enjoy.

Better than their hefeweizen, but not by much. Fairly similar in fact, with nothing special or offensive to be found. I wouldn’t turn one down if it was offered, but I wouldn’t run out to buy one either.

Bottle (12oz). Poured very bubbly clear gold with a good foamy white head. There was a frisson of hops in the air when I popped it, but when I sniffed the glass there was only a faint residue, as well as some slightly vegetal grainy malt (almost corny). Taste is a bit buttery, average mouthfeel, a bit fizzy, mild grains, dry hops, slightly sweet malt, with straw - finishes fairly dry, whisper-sweet. This is okay, but thee’s a weird touch of bleach about it.
