Slightly lactic and phenolic nose. Malty and vegetative palate. Cannot get all the way thru this.

Amazingly, found this on draft at Pete’s Brass Rail and Car Wash in Danville, CA. Deep dark color with a thin head. Spices and hops spring from the aroma. Heavy taste. Nice mix of malt and hops. However, not the best winter ale I have had.

had at Hops House Brewpub after the SHiner Brewery... happy to see this is a brown ale and not a spiced, cuz this ain’t no winter warmer folks. Dark ruby tan ..low head..not bad lacing either...somewhat muddled taste, but non offending.....good but not great...low smell..a made for the masses winter beer if anything.

Pours cloudy reddish brown with minimal head but decent amount of carbonation. Buttermilk, brown sugar, malt on the nose. Slightly viscous mouth feel, little carbonation, fairly watery. Malt up front, very little on back end aside from more malt, a very little hop presence once several drinks have left a little residue on the tongue. Nothing offensive but hardly worth seeking out. NC seems to do best when they’re dealing with high ABV brews.

Smells like ice tea, pours darker...winter ales and seasonals in Sept is such a tease. Midly spicey in the taste...mediocraty (spelling??)

Basically a beefy amber ale. Dark chestnut and slightly hazy. Aroma of tea and bananna bread/walnuts. Flavor is flacidly malty and kind of plain. Overall, enjoy your retirement.

Bottle pours a cloudy darker hued caramel, large foamy off-white head, bits of sediment floating about, lacks carbonation (expected for a sample this old), with suprisingly nice lacing.   Butterscotch nose, fairly sweet, slight spices and vegetable, but also some charred wood (or campfire) on the nose.   Muted spices and vegetables on the tongue.   Initially there was a strong charred wood/campfire presense but it has diminished as it warms.   Body and mouthfeel have probably diminished over the years, being only medium at this point.   Finishes fairly light, still fairly sweet, lingering herbal notes with only a touch of charred wood.   Not bad for something this old.   Thanks goes out to mattbob for providing me with a few samples.
