Pours conker brown with a really large white fluffy head. Dark sugars dominate, its malty, fruity but a little unrefined a touch rough otherwise its ok. Possibly like a very strong mild, this has a burnt malt, chocolatey initial flavour with a strong licorice character, background sweetness masking the alcohol, thickish body with heavy pallate. There is a finishing coffee note and a fruity sweet finish. Quite an unusual beer for a cask ale, there is plenty going on, just a bit heavy for a pub beer.
