Maltiness lingers for some time.Would have been higher rated if it was better bottled. downender (2609), Bristol, Gloucestershire, England

Aroma of bitter chocolate with a hint of savoury and roast malt. Flavour began with some coffee and bitter chocolate before a slightly salty, dry finish. A bit subdued all round. | 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 12/20 | May 14, 2008 Gravity, Banbury Beer Festival. Sawdust roast aroma, a bit of swamp. Tingely sweet roast flavor, light fruit. Clean finish, decent body. Not a standout, but a fine enough half. Fin (3441), Merton, Oxfordshire, England

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Sep 24, 2006 A mild with attitude: dark brown with a beige head. Interesting smoked, nutty aroma. After the merest hint of sweetness, the taste is dark chocolate with a pronounced ashy sourness and a dry finish. Very good. chriso (4796), London, Greater London, England

Oak brown colour - quite light for a "dark" mild. Conspicuous roast malt and chocolate aroma. More roast malt and hints of coffee/chocolate in the flavour. Some sweetness in the middle palate but a touch of bitterness comes through on the finish. An engaging and characterfil mild.

| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 11/20 | May 10, 2006 Dark and slightly cloudy with a short head. Smoked and roasted nuts were the overall aromas but the beer is much more complex in this sour beer. Smooth and not too fizzy. maeib (4740), Wootton, Northampton, Northamptonshire, England
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Sep 4, 2005 Cask conditioned - gravity dispense - Harbury BF. Black as night with wispish white head and lacing. The aroma is on the thin side but there is some roasted malt and a little smokiness. The taste is very dry (almost Stout like) with some light roast and smoke again. A pretty good mild.
