Nate (2533), Indiana, Pennsylvania, USA Nov 3, 2008 On tap at the brewpub. Not a huge hoppy nose to this. Grassy and fresh, herbal. Light capers aroma, which is a bit odd. Some sweet caramel malts. Hazy dark amber with thin light lacing head. Medium watery body with heavy carbonation. Starts with dusty grain and bitter grassy hops. Touch of capers in the taste, too. Were these fresh hops instead of dried? A bit of oxidation and mild alcohol. Bitter dry nutty finish and after. A bit harsh. cheapdark (2011), Monacatootha, Pennsylvania, USA Jun 16, 2008 Hazy iced tea color. Aroma of dull pine and floral hops but it is barely perceivable. Very bitter taste as with any IIPA but the evolution of the flavors really makes it interesting. It starts off very floral or fruity on the buds and then BIG hop the slam comes along. A little more well behaved than many unruley IIPA. I really like the way the taste morphs on each sip. Bitter lingering finish that reminds me of chewing grapefruit rinds that are not quite ripe. On target for an IIPA.
