Nose of light banana, vanilla, and clove with a good amount of wheat malt in there as well. Pours hazy light golden with a thin white head. Banana and vanilla sweetness to begin with followed by wheat malt and cereal grains, then to a nice quenching citrus finish. Light and quenching with nice bright carbonation. Well done.

I was told this was’’Bavarian Wheat’’ but the board listed ’’Hefeweizen’’ , thankfully no lemon to curdle the rich, ripe, smashed banana aroma. I’m not a big wheat beer but this one was fun. good balance of the citrus sour with the banana and can sugar flavors.

On tap at the brewpub. Pours cloudy gold with a lacy white head. Banana aroma, with soft spicy notes. Medium body and light carbonation. Banana, bread and fruit taste. Lightly sour, almost lemony finish. This one of the beers that North Fork has dialed in.

Update: Three resamples since that glorious pint in May ’05 and it’s really not lived up to that. A decent hefe, bouncing between sweet and tart, with a bit of a dirty yeastiness. Quite variable in character, but sadly I can’t keep the old score.

May 22, 2005: Densely-sedimented light tan colour. Rich, thick head. Fruity aroma - wheat, banana, peaches, sweat. Excellent banana character with hints of leather and sweat, and lots of clean, sweet pale malts. One of the best I’ve ever had. Ar 8 Ap 5 F 8 P 5 O18 = 4.4
