| 1.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 3/10 | 2/5 | 4/10 | 2/5 | 8/20 | Aug 4, 2009 My wife made the comment about this beer that it was actually ok because it was a little heavier. I said that if their stout wasn’t even half way close to what a stout should be we should get out of there. I guess i’m all talk....Black is the only thing that was close to the style. Light roasted nuts, a little hint of toast and maybe some vanilla and light gas station coffee flavors on the palate. Hophead22 (1105), Redlands, by way of Wisconsin,, California, USA

Pretty much a black pour, but I could see a little red showing through around the edges. This had a buttery aroma to it. More butter in the flavor as well, some coffee and chocolate as well. This was a little off. Baumgartner (108), Eau Claire, Wisconsin, USA
| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 1/5 | 12/20 | Jul 16, 2008 Bottle poured to glass. A sweet aroma fo roasted to almost burnt molasses and a mild coffee smell. This brew is black in color and moderately sweet. The flavor develops in to a mocha like after taste. Very thin for a stout. | 1.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 2/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 5/20 | Oct 5, 2007 Appearance: Pours a clear, dark brown body with a bubbly, wispy off-white head.
Smell: Mild aroma of dark chocolate and roasted barley. Yes, there’s still that buttery diacetyl character that’s really become the hallmark of the Northwoods beer line.
Taste: Dark malt flavors of dark chocolate and coffee allow only a mild butter taste to emerge. Sourish finish. Sadly, even their relatively darkest beer couldn’t quite cover up the diacetyl flaw.
Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Medium carbonation. Slick and mouth-coating.
Drinkability: Finally completing this grueling tour of the Northwoods beers, a trip full of many hardships, misery, and brewing faults far, far eclipses my 500 review milestone. kp (8500), Woodstock, Georgia, USA

| 1.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 2/10 | 2/5 | 4/20 | Sep 29, 2007 Bottle: Pours a nearly opaque dark brown with a thin ring of tan head. Aroma of sweet dark caramel and butterscotch with a faint hint of tartness. Body starts tart at first showing some roastier notes before a thinner, bland bitter finish. Has a lot of diacetyl and infectious tartness. There aren’t many more ways to mess up a beer. At least the aroma’s not bad. JK (2963), Richfield, Minnesota, USA
