Bottle. Pours dark with a small head. Mild roasts on the nose with a little bit of that sour funk that all the beers I have sampled thus far seem to have. I am almost afraid to taste it. Hey! Not that bad, mostly mild burnt wood. At least its not objectionable. OK.

dark brown color, no head. the flavor has a sweetness to it that i found annoying. it is much too bubbly in the mouth, and the sweet aftertaste is cloying. another unremarkable entry from northwoods.

Another watered-down brew from Northwoods...I guess I taste roasted caramel malt and I guess there’s some kind of coffee/nut flavor there somewhere..and I guess I vaguely remember drinking it.

Headless, but actively lacing nonetheless, this dark brown brew has a lightly roasted, caramelly aroma, almost corny sweet. Quite spritzy in the mouth for a porter. The flavor is a one dimensional roasted barley with little else. Drinkable, but why?

Dark brown, transparent at the bottom, with little head, swiftly degenerating into a sad, bubbling ring of faint cola-ish carbonation. Aroma: roasty and bitter, notes of cocoa and coffee, ...not bad. Taste: Far too faint in the mouthfeel to really count as a porter, this enters the mouth limply, and exits just as weak. Trickles of dark, chocolatey flavors, waft over the palate, then drip away. Doesn’t really make much of an impression anywhere. Really needs to have bigger body to be a porter worth it’s roasted barley, and this ain’t working. No chewiness, no girth. But, I suspect this brewery was built around low expectations and pleasing the common denominator above all else. Oh, well...I’ll give this half-credit for at least coming close to being a good porter, without becoming a total abomination. And must say I’ve noticed that the darker beers of this breweries bottling are the least offensive, and the closest to their marks. More in the brew to hide the flaws?

Deep red-brown. Smells of molasses and light chocolate. Flavor has some chocolate, but mostly lots of cloying, sweetend molasses. At least it’s not overpoweringly sweet. Hoppy at the end.

Chestnut to mahogany color with a small light tan head. Light roasted malt aromas with a hint of smoke. Dark chocolate. light roasted malt and peat. Fairly simple, but OK.
