Commercial Description:
In the US, called BrouCzech Dark.

Pyrope or Bohemian garnet stones were randomly collected in our territory by ancient Celts. It is a stone of all-binding fire, passion as well as purity of heart. However, it is generally known as a stone of love. Thanks to its typical colour, its name has been used metaphorically in connection with the colour of dark and semi-dark beers. Granat from Nova Paka is a dark sweeter lager with quality rich foam that is suitable for mixing pale types; alcohol 5%.

(12 oz bottle: Hollingshead Deli in Orange, CA) I don’t know how this could be, but when I popped the cap, there wasn’t even the slightest hint of pressure release, no sound, nothing. Yet the beer has poured with a quarter-inch, light-tan cap. And carbonation levels in the mouthfeel are a bit low, but certainly acceptable. Weird. Anyway, the flavor is pleasant, if a little pedestrian: sugary sweet, with toasty malts balanced by perfumy, lightly-bitter hops. Really sugary aftertaste. Medium bodied, but much of that is probably from the sweetness. Light brown in color, perhaps even a dark, ruddy amber, with moderate haziness. The head fully dissipates fairly quickly, not even getting the chance to leave any lacing. Not a bad beer overall, but too sugary and floral for me to want to buy this again.

Good light chocolaty feeling. A normalsih red-brown appearance, this isn’t that bad. It’s pretty sweet, probably it’s main downside. Overall, like must dunkels, this is pretty solid stuff.

Brou Czech Dark. Clear brown pour. Malty, nutty taste with a bit of smoke. Bitter/sour finish. Unimpressed.

Brou Czech Dark: Not bad for a dunkel. The color is a reddish brown. The steady carbonation works hard to sustain a one-fingered light brown head. Both the aroma and flavor are a mild caramel with a bit of nuttiness. There’s also a suggestion of smoke and a light bitter hopping in the finish. Okay.

Dark amber. Frothy head. Plastic aroma. Thin, somewhat malty flavour with disturbing plastic notes.

A little more bitter than I expected from a Czech dunkel, a style not known for having hops in it. More roasty, too. Decent, just unexpected. I had hoped the beer’d be milder.
