| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Oct 1, 2004 (pretty aged sample) Colour of extremely strong, nearly black tea; light brown, creamy head. Whiff of vinegar over grain, scorched grain and coffee. Again preserving vinegar in the taste, short lived but unmistakably, and returning with every sip. Coffee, but restrained; corn flakes and something faint cheesy - smoked cheese rookkaas . Well bodied, slick, slightly oily MF, thinner because of age & acidity. Thanks for this forgotten beer, MatW. As our mutual friend Ian Garrett would say, "Interesting" rather than really great. rauchbier (3003), Isle Of Beer, Lincolnshire, England
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Feb 5, 2003 Bottle conditioned. Deep red colour almost black, good cream coloured rocky head but slightly overcarbonated. Peppery aromas with hints of coffee powder, more coffee in the mouth with a fruity sour note developing but keeping itself in check without detracting from the flavour. Finish is dry and tinged with roast barley. More of a porter than a stout.Website suggests brewery is no more but beers being produced elsewhere.

| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Sep 23, 2002 Nursery Brewing is a new venture by Malcolm Shipp the owner of Shipping Beer who specialise in importing Irish Ales and various stouts, so it’s no surprise that this bottle conditioned beer is a handome stout. The head brewer is Steve Cheeseright who won Supreme Champion with Knickadroppa Glory whilst brewing for the Sutton Brewing Co in Plymouth. This is a warm and smooth stout with bags of soft dark fruit and licorice malt flavours with sufficent fizz to make the whole thing taste quite light and refreshing. As a lover of well made dark beers I rate this quite highly. Strongly recommended.
