agillespie81 (88), Denver, Colorado, USA Mar 16, 2008 Black in color......opaque. Thick, creamy head. Sweet, slightly malty aroma. Heavy malt flavor up front, with hints of sweetness. Finishes with a very dry mouthfeel, and a nice roasted malt aftertaste.
biznizness (664), Mooresville, North Carolina, USA Jun 7, 2008 Beer of the month club. Pretty nice stout here, smooth with good flavor, and drinkable. Wouldn’t call it an overly bold stout, but everything doesn’t have to be bold. changeup45 (507), Orlando, Florida, USA Apr 12, 2008 Pours a thick blackish color topped with a fairly thick tan head. The aroma is a pretty strong coffee smell. Not a bad amount of lace left on this one, but the head diminished a little bit. The flavor is pretty good but the only thing I really detected was a coffee taste with maybe some chocolate a slight bitter hops taste mixed in. Illini08 (504), Raleigh, North Carolina, USA Apr 11, 2008 Duane shared a 12 oz bottle. Not much going on here. Dark brown pour with no head. Light coffee and chocolate aroma and flavor. Thin on the palate and somewhat uninteresting and unimpressive. Nothing offensive, but nothing really pops out as exceptional about this stout. johnnysmoke (30), Texas, USA Apr 7, 2008 Black color with a light aroma and taste. Pronounced whiffs of roasted coffee and chocolate. Palate is thin. Conceptually this beer is a good idea that’s poorly executed. Another BOMC selection that’s underwhelming.
jblendy (450), Hawthorne, New Jersey, USA Mar 27, 2008 Pours black with a nice dark brown head. Aroma is extremely light, but has a bit of roasted coffee and chocolate. Flavor is similar to the aroma with light coffee and dark chocolate notes, but anise seems to dominate the fairly light flavor. Palate is a bit thin, but still has an oily aspect, and virtually no finish. Not bad, but nothing special at all.
