Ungstrup (11031), Frederiksberg, Denmark Oct 2, 2005 [Vintage 2004, sampled September 2005] A hazy red-brown beer with a huge very dark brown head. The aroma is sweet with notes of herbs and celery. The flavor is very roasted and with strong notes of herbs as well as lesser notes of grass, on a thin body. omhper (10393), Stockholm, Sweden Dec 12, 2002 Updated: Jan 18, 2003Sampled cask conditioned at Oliver Twist, Stockholm, Sweden.
Black. Roasty and spicy nose with notes of nutmeg, cinnamon and pumpkin. Malty, fruity and rather sweet with pleasant warming, filling mouthfeel. Some licorice and plesant bitterness in the finish. An excellent, well balanced spiced winter ale, leaning towards a strong porter.
Rating (draught) for earlier version (under the name Järflotta Julöl):
A dark chestnut brown winter ale. Rather malty, burnt flavours, somewhat grassy hop aroma with a complex spicyness and big late graperuit bitterness. The 2001/2002 rendition seem more balanced than previous years. 6/4/6/3/14 joergen (6240), Frederiksberg, Denmark Mar 25, 2006 Bottle.
