Very roasty, chocolatey and mildly vinous aroma. Opaque dark brown with a small tannish head. Smoked, roasty flavor to start mirroring the aroma. Chocolatey maltiness later on in the flavor with a roasty, dry finish. Nice. Walt (2289), Chicago, Illinois, USA

Nose of coffee, cocoa and bourbon with a heaping helping of smoke. Perfectly balanced flavor. Chocolate, hickory smoke, coffee, caramel, sourmash and vanilla. Medium-bodied and satiny with lively carbonation. Lengthy, balanced finish. Even better than expected. Glad I saved lottery tickets to bid on this one. CaptainCougar (5545), Rockville, Maryland, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jul 12, 2005 Sampled at the RBSG ‘05 bottle tasting courtesy of cquiroga: Pours a rich, dark, nearly opaque brown with a thin tan head. Very smoky, lightly roasted, raisin and dark fruit aroma. Body is dry, roasty and well smoked with nice viscosity, reminiscent of Alaskan smoked porter, just slightly better. Smooth and quite drinkable, yet very flavorful. argo0 (7036), Washington DC, USA

Aroma is moderately sweet, milk chocolate, some caramel. Taste is medium sweet, milk chocolate, light roast. Creamy medium body, low carbonation. (6/3/6/2/12)
(12oz bottle, RBSG05) Dark cola body atop a minimal beige head. Aroma is medium sweet, some chocolate, some smoke, quite inviting. Taste is medium sweet, some caramel, light smoke -- sits there quite disappointingly after the inviting aroma. Medium body. I thought that perhaps the bottle did not travel well, but others who shared it with me loved it, so I guess it is just me. (9/3/5/3/12) egajdzis (3645), Spring Mount, Pennsylvania, USA

Poured a mahogany brownish red color with a thin, tan head that left light lacing on the glass. Super complex aroma of smoke, chocolate, roasted malts, and red wine. Taste of smoke, chocolate, light vanilla, and dry roastiness in the finish. Mouthfeel was a little thin. Thanks omhper via cquiroga! OKBeer (1159), Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada

Cocoa, light citrus, coffee, and lightly piny aroma, with smoky and roasty notes. Coffee, choclate, light citrus, flavours, with a roasty and smoky bitter finish. Light bodied, smooth, but lacking a richness that I like in a porter. fiulijn (7520), Como; Lausanne (CH); Malmö (SWE), Italy
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Mar 8, 2005 Updated: Dec 17, 20092009-11-09, vintage 2005, bottle n 595, 8-4-6-3-14=35 Black color, small head. The aroma shows chocolate in front of all, some oxidisation, very light apple and vanilla. The body is quite lean, the final being weak; chocolate flavor, getting empty in the end. It didn’t age well.
2005-09-24, vintage 2003, 6.0%, 8-4-8-4-17=41 Black color, thin head. Wonderful aroma: malt, caramel, liquorice, coffee, a hint of fudge, very light phenol. Quite malty body, good mix of caramel and liquorice, ends with a burnt final (coffee) very long. A bit dry. Excellent! (at Glenfiddich Warehouse N.68 with Hui Ling and their chocolate dessert, yummy!)
2005-03-05, vintage 2004, 5.9%, 8-4-8-4-15=39 Dark brown color; small head, almost flat. Nice aroma, with some roasted malt, yeast, molasses, caramel. Without being strong, the taste is really harmonious; a lot of caramel and some roasted malt; oily. The final is quite balanced, very long. Thanks Per for this rare bottle.
