Bottle, thanks to Bu11zeye. Pours brown with tan head, slight retention. Aroma of strong coffee, vanilla, and dark fruit notes. Flavor is semi-sweet, dark roast, coffee, and perhaps some whisky?????pretty nice. Palate has a light-medium feel with medium carbonation. Over all, a very nice porter

2003 #508, 2004 #108, 2005 #586. 500ml bottle. 2003 is the best. We shared 4 bootles last time at Mackinleys Inn. The best beer ever tasted!

500ml bottle The year 2003 is the best. we shared 4 bootles last time at Mackinleys Inn. 2004 is the worst and it is still better then any other beer. 2005 I got a hold of 20 bottles and still have one for saving at home. Still buying them when I can at the bar too. But they have a high price and well worth the price, remember to drink it at the right temperature

Thanks Santa!!! Poured an insanely deep black, head vanishes to quickly, but a thin ring clings for life along the edge of the glass. Aroma is bold and fully roasted. Hints of smoke, piloncillo, rum and some leather. Flavor is equally as assertive, and seems to last for an eternity. Roasted and slightly bitter. Amazing.

2005, bottle #448. I have wanted to sample this beer for a few years, but as the moment finally arrives I don’t feel quite the anticipation I have in the past. I’ll take this as a healthy omen, since I really want to approach this with an open mind and no preconceptions. A small, light brown head quickly fades to grouped clusters and oily residue. The body is near-black and shiny. I like shiny. Wow, this smells great! Smoke, charred malt, tar, molasses, chocolate, black fruits, vanilla, fresh French oak, caramel and anise are all found in the aroma. What’s more, they’re all easily discernible. Just fantastic. A traditional element is the standout feature of the nose. Lesser notes of thistle honey and crumpled grains lead the finale in, where mildness is achieved in a soft but firm blend. The flavor is lovely too, the aforementioned now gelled into a complex mesh of dark fruits, succulent chocolates and mild comforting bitterness. Sweetness is medium to medium-high and lingers heavily in the marshmallow creme-coated finish. The palate feelings are of velvet, tickly but sparse bubbles and smoothly flowing roast. This is fantastic and will remain a wanted beer.

Bottle at argo0’s xmas beer party-thanks to whomever brought it! Pours dark brown with small head. Smells like burnt plastic. Flavor is smoky and roasty, but there is something I really don’t like in the flavor at all.

#700 STOUTIE Rating!

Bottle (2004) at A&K Holiday tasting brought by Ken, thanks: Opaque with a frothy thin head and okay lace. The aroma has notes of raisin, fig, honey, cardamom, chocolate, walnut, and toasted bread. The taste has a big acidic fruit bite at first supported by layer of bittersweet chocolate and charred malts. The finish displays coffee, spice, and almost a funky yeast condition. The mouth feel is far too thin for the flavor profile, chalky and mineral finish. Smells good but taste is disappointing in the end.

500mL bottle, 2004 vintage, courtesy of omhper. Thanks, Per! Pours a lightly oily, dark chocolate color; thin, light tan head. Plenty of chewy chocolate and nougat and roasted malts in the aroma; somewhat nutty. Relaxed carbonation; medium mouthfeel: plenty of chocolate and nuttiness and a bit oily on the palate; not quite as dense as I’d like, but full enough for a 6% porter; minimal hoppy bitterness with a bit of minerals present mid-palate. Medium, chocolate and nuttiness in the finish.
