Thanks to Ken for this. Thick black oil color. Aroma has some chocolate and liqueur but also has a lingering scent of plastic coming through. Flavor has some smoke along with bitter baker’s chocolate in a somewhat thin body.

Poured from a 500 ml bottle. Vintage 2004. Oily, dark oak hued pour. Thick, rich chocolate and burnt caramel aroma; a hint of lactose and plenty of roasty, fat meatiness. Tastes of butterscotch, hazelnut and a very acidic light roasted Costa Rican coffee; lots of cream and syrupy, flavored sugar ease in, but it keeps its integrity for the most part and never gets too synthetic. Some peat and soft smoke shine through the softly carbonated, silky body. Oily, dense, and coating. Pure bitter cocoa in deep dark earthiness at the finish. Rich, and very pleasant. Bottle [vintage 2004], from Den Tatovere Enke. Shared with Skortila and Caesar in Nijmegen. Pours absolutely pitch black with no head except a little beige showing around the edges of my glass. Aroma is woody, vinious, toffee. Flavour is complex, a little medicinal, lots of roasted malts to the background, some mild woodyness. Very oily mouthfeel. Very nice, and probably the right time to drink it.

Hmm, I already forgot how to pronounce this long array of characters. Anyway, thanx for the share, thewolf. This one was quite good. Aroma is subtle, has coffee, roast, some port/red wine. Bit oily character. Black coloured with a thin, brown head. Taste is sweet, slightly thin. It has roasted malts, chocolate, coffee and there is some earth/wood/nature in it. Bit winey as well. really nice.

Bottled, thnx to thewolf. Dark color, short off-white head. Aroma of chocolat, bit salty, some port notes, roasted malt. Slightly reminds me of the Narke Kaggen. Bit sweet taste, chocolat, creamy, vanilla, port wine. Bit sweet palate. Very very nice!

Thanks to omhper for this long distance trade! Liquified tar black with hints of dark brown at the edges in strong light. The head is a light brown small ring along the edge of the glass. Yesterdays coffee grounds with bourbon filled chocolates, a few drops of liquid smoke, some woody and earthy notes as well. Not as full bodied as I expected it to be by the scent, In fact, seems a bit watery. There’s lots of chocolate and coffee here but it also has a bit of that tangy "You waited too long to drink me" taste that several of my Japanese micros had. Either that or this is what it is supposed to taste like. Certainly need a re-rate with a fresh bottle.

Vintage 2005, bottle number 76 and I had it at our pubcrawl in Göteborg in Delirium Cafe in July 07. It come with no label except from a tar impregnated and smelling piece of rope - a very nice detail! It’s pitch black with a creamy head. The aroma has loads of roasted malt and chocolate, but also coffee and wood. The mouthfeel is oily and the flavour is full and harmonic. It has loads of chocolate, coffee and licorice, hints of tar and oak. The balance between sweetness and bitterness is just right. A great one indeed! 2398

500ml bottle, via anders37, 2005 vintage, bottle #443. Pours a very dark brown, almost black, body under a very fine bubbled one finger brown head that gained density as it faded, finally ending as a thin ring and a small island. A very slight amount of fine sediment remained in bottle. The aroma is quite complex and varied. Huge bitter chocolate, smoke, light soy, a touch of alcohol, light oak, some chalk, and an almost bourbon like note. The flavor is just as multifaceted. Chocolate, roast, and smoke lead off. Lighter notes of soy, licorice, and a chalky burnt malt note. Finishes slightly sweet with a long lingering chalky note and some roasted peanuts. The mouthfeel is very pleasant, medium bodied with an extremely fine and soft perfect carbonation level. The texture is very soft and velvety with just a slight cloying feel on the finish. This was a really anticipated beer for me, and it didn’t let me down. The woodiness was very subtle and the pervasive smoky and very light soy throughout was very pleasant. A unique and stand-out Porter. I could see where some might call this a bit thin, but I think that it was more than adequate for a Porter. A top 5 Porter for me.
