jah noth (1015), Rochester, New York, USA Sep 3, 2009 Copenhagen aroma - i.e. dirt and tobacco. Beautiful crimson brown with no head. Slight char in the flavor, peanuts and very light caramel. A bit watery. Beginner beer. Barreras (121), Diamond Bar, California, USA Aug 17, 2009 Pours a cola brown color almost black with good lacing. Aroma of nuts and hints of sweetness. A good nutty smooth flavor. An excellent brown ale that I would drink again. beerbill (1918), Laurel, New York, USA Jul 5, 2009 12 oz. bottle courtesy of a trade with Sparky27. Pours a mostly clear deep reddish amber with a moderate off-white head. Mild aroma of lightly roasted nuts and caramel. The flavor is stronger than the aroma with the same lightly roasted nuts and caramel along with just a bit of chocolate. Mild-medium bitterness at the finish. An ok brown ale. Soonah (900), Tulsa, Oklahoma, USA May 6, 2009 From Sparky27 via trade. The pour was a dull brown with a short white to off-white head. Some lacing. The aroma was restrained, but I noticed sweet caramel malts, chocolate and light spice. The flavor was weird, artificial chocolate. Like a yoo-hoo or some bastardized cousin of a yoo-hoo. Diacetyl. Thin mouthfeel. Not very enjoyable. theisti (1638), Leawood, Kansas, USA Apr 27, 2009 12 oz bottle from Sparky27. Pour is a chill hazed ruby brown with a smallish off white head. Aroma of sweetish hazelnut, decent blast of soft roasted crystal malt behind that. Taste is sweet chemical hazelnut, iced tea, some slight grassyiess behind that. Hint of diacetyl - which actually doesn’t detract too much, though it makes it taste more or less like an iced tea with artificial sweetener. Palate is thin, almost watery, lower carbonation. This one was pretty forgettable. Thanks Eric. Ron (1000), Rochester, New York, USA Apr 26, 2009 The last of the sampler tray. Poured a deep amber color with a large beige head. Aroma of dough and nuts. Malty flavor with a good bit of caramel and some earthy tones. Medium bodied. Avengedpoet (325), Mesa, Arizona, USA Apr 5, 2009 Updated: Jun 23, 2009Pours an extremely dark brown with voluminous white head. Aroma of light chocolate malts and nuts. Taste is extremely dry and chalky with some of the malt taste around the edges. The palate on this one really killed it for me. If it were marginally sweeter, it would have been much better.
Update: Better on tap. Beautiful nutty aroma that comes through, complex toasted nut character in the flavor profile. Light crystal malt to back it up. Pretty refreshing and worth a try on tap. HighWine (163), , California, USA Apr 1, 2009 Tap at the restaurant. Gorgeous mahogany color. Tight tan head. Bready nose and taste. Light bodied coffee taste followed by bitterness.
