One of the best smelling beers I’ve rated; Dark brown with cherry accents and a ring of beige bubbles around the sides of the glass; Flavor tastes more like a brown ale, smooth with caramelly malts and coffee, and a little hop finish; not as good as the Rogue, but pretty good! ratman197 (3244), Arvada, Colorado, USA
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Aug 1, 2006 Bottle poured a clear deep reddish brown with a minimal amber head. Aromas of carmel, molasses, nuts and a hint of cocoa. Palate was medium to light bodied and smooth. Flavors of cocoa, toffee, light molasses and a hint of nuttiness with a smooth lingering bittersweet finish. BückDich (4854), McCall, Idaho, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 2/5 | 13/20 | Jul 25, 2006 Bottle: Pours a dark brown mahogany color. Light head and no lacing, average retention. The nose is a bit bright with some alcohol and fusel type things, but the sweet nutty caramelly malt is there too. The flavor is nicely roasted with a bit of smoke and astringency. Some sweetness and light hop flavor. The finish is a bit tangy. A middle of the road nut brown with a moderate body, light nuttiness. Eh. GuilTTy (538), Cherry Hill, New Jersey, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jul 13, 2006 Sampled on tap at the Oak Creek Brewpup in Sedona. Clear mahogany with ruby highlites under a thin light tan head. Aroma of fresh baked bread, caramel, roasted malt and fresh cracked walnuts. Pretty nicely balanced flavors of malt, a hint of coffee, vanilla and even some smoke all with a little hoppy kick. The mouthfeel is thin but not watery and the finish is very clean and nutty. Overall, this is a nicely crafted beer which represents the style well but which doesn’t elevate it either. OhioDad (2491), Hilliard, Ohio, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jun 9, 2006 12oz bottle via trade with cbkschubert - Pours dark brown with a short offwhite head that didn’t stay very long and didn’t leave much lace either. Aromas of nuts, roasted malts, and a touch of chocolate. Flavor is quite nutty. Almost like roasted peanuts with a little chocolate on them. Medium body that leans a little to the watery side. Drinkable but like most browns nothing much to remember. eaglefan538 (2394), Wilmington, Delaware, USA
| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 10/20 | May 31, 2006 Pours the standard brown ale color with a decent head and good lacing. Aroma is nutty and rich malty. Flavor follows suit with strong sweetness. Nuts and roasted malts come through with very little hop balance. Low in carbonation and not one you can just session. In fact, this one isn’t that good within style. cbkschubert (2004), Cochise Co., Arizona, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | May 21, 2006 Pours brown with a nice off white head. Has a light roasted malt aroma. Light roasted malt flavor with a nice hop balance. Light to medium body. Easy drinking. Probably the best bottled OC beer. dwyerpg (2545), Las Vegas, Nevada, USA
