Smelled of lumber, roasted chestnuts, and compost. Taste was dominated by the oak tannins and vanilla, but earthy hops and nutty malt also were present. Long tannic finish with no alcohol hotness in evidence. Good stuff. brewski519 (415), Morrisville, North Carolina, USA

Nice scent of oak, hops, orange and spice. Taste is the same with a very dry hoppy kick to it and perfect carbonation. Great, great beer. southamptonsam (81), New York, USA

Sweet malt aroma. Overwelmingly dry oak flavor which just overpowered everything else in this brew. These beers are not usually my thing and I do not usually buy them, but the guy running this tasting was very insistant and just did not want to take no for an answer. I just do not understand how people drink this stuff. Long dry finish. Juelze (905), Green Bay, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Dec 15, 2008 Bottle. Pours a reddish brown color with medium off white head. Aroma is of resinous hops, light fruit, mild notes of oak, and caramel malt. Taste is resinous hops and fruit with the oak chips being more prominent. The finish gives way to a bitter taste with some caramel malt putting everything in balance. The oak really works in this one. Much better then the standard Bastard. ghawener (963), San Salvador, El Salvador

| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Dec 13, 2008 Not really oaky-maybe a bit musty. Very chocolaty, but in a different way. More like nutella. Hops are good, but the herbal & earthy aspect is a little odd. Much better than the fresher one I had, which was straight cat piss hops. Low carbonation, mouthfeel is a bit too thick. bconley (351), Fern Park, Florida, USA

Alot chiller than the regular arrogant bastard. More malty. Carmel and toffee flavors were definitely present. Id like to try the double, but this was nice.
