| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Sep 23, 2008 Wow, this beer looks nice. The beer has a nice deep dark caramel brown color; almost a little reddish if you will. This beer has a nice fluffy head that seems to last a while. This is a damn good looking beer. They could have done without the heavy filtering, but hell it still looks nice. Aroma is nice, but not what I expected it to be. I thought that the aroma would be more pungent, but I was let down. The hops are nice, when I smell them. The aroma is dominated by hops, not really any malts to speak of, but the hop aroma (even though it is a little weak) is nice. The oak is somewhat noticeable. I can taste it right away and then it sort of disappears. I can taste the wood, but not as much as I could in say an oak aged stout. The hops are great in the flavor. There is a nice bittering and flavoring hop, but that damn aroma hop is weak. Nice balance between the subtle wood taste, and the hop flavor. No malts to speak of, just completely dominated by hops. The beer has an average palate, and with the $15 per-six pack price tag, it wouldn’t hurt to charge a little less. Overall, this is a beautiful beer, better looking than my ex-girlfriend. I am just happy to say that I have been "stoned". Ansset13 (127), Wilmington, North Carolina, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Sep 23, 2008 The pour is a nice amber with a good off-white head. The nose is strongly floral hops, with some yeast and oak hints adding to the rich aroma. The taste is largely grapefruit, with undertones of coriander, yeast and syrup. A pleasant and refreshing beer worthy of many more!! doboy (206), Morehead City, North Carolina, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Sep 23, 2008 Pours a dark amber with a nice off white head. Head lasted nicely before turning into thick lace. Aroma was that of citrusy hops. Mouthfeel was great, velvety on the tongue. Taste was floral, almost cherry. Nice bittering on the back end. Never did quite find the Oak. KAggie97 (2476), Ugly, Hot, and Humid Spring, Texas, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Sep 23, 2008 Bottle. Pours a deep, thick amber with a lush head of beige. Crimson highlights act like stained glass when held against light, resembling a chalice of blood. Aroma is sweet orange and bitter grapefruit, with an afterthoughtof bready mango alongside cheddar cheese. Tastes of subtle grapefruit and light strawberry syrup-topped biscuit, pine, and sharp cheddar. Thick and coating along the tongue as it travels toward the throat. Not sure where the oak is, but this beer is nice nonetheless. NextBestThing (22), Westtown, New York, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 5/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Sep 22, 2008 Massively hopped nose along with detectable oak notes. Predictably bitter, tastes like gnawing at the side of a thickly barked tree probably would., and then comes the bitter. Beautiful looking beer, a rich red. Prefer the non-oaked version and actually prefer Stone’s standard IPA above all their other offerings. Definitely a different taste and something you may want to try if you need to experience variety for the sake of variety itself. OK. Svesse (2683), Hässelby, Sweden
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Sep 22, 2008 (Bottle, Akkurat, Stockholm) Dark reddish amber colour with frothy, beige head. Malty, fruity nose with notes of dark fruit, caramel, oak wood, vanilla and citrussy hops. Malty taste with dark fruit, dried apricots, caramel, toffee and lots of wood. Generous amounts of citrussy hops in a long, earthy finish. Surprisingly nice balance for such a cocky beer. Very nice one. mephisto (1144), Taiwan
