12 oz Bottle. Aggressive, strong brew. (surprise, surprise!). A slight oaky, roasty aroma. Mahogany color with lots of lacing and sheeting on the glass. Big flavors underlying the faint aroma. Lots of malt, a little roasted, a little sweet, and of course, the oak, with piney, resin hops. Maybe some raisin and vanilla in there someplace. Combining lots of strong flavors can sometimes result in a muddled flavor, but well balanced and conceived. The oak enhances the brew rather than muddling it or dominating it.

Bottle: Damn fine brew. Just became available in Appletone, Wisconsin. Pour is dark amber/golden with a light tan head. Aroma is of light oak, peach vanilla, sweet malt, and light hops. Flavors begin with strong sweet malt and caramel, light fruit, mellow oak character, and a sweet floral hop finish. Damn fine brew, indeed. Very floral and citrus aromas and flavors. Would definitely like to try all of the bastard ales. Alcohol is well hidden and it is a very easy drink. Damn fine.

12 oz. bottle consumed on 9-3-08. Pleasant, sweet, oaky, malty aroma features vanilla from the oak, pine and citrus (especially grapefruit) from the hops, and cookie, biscuit, and raisin from the malt. Pours a clear, brilliant, dark copper with an amber to red hue. Light effervescence. Large amount of uneven, light tan, thick, fluffy head. Some sporadic lacing. Delicious, rich, dry taste. Piney, citrusy hops. Sweet, oaky flavor. Fruity maltiness emerges as it warms: Watermelon, prune, peach. Lightly bitter finish. Dry aftertaste. Medium to heavy body. This is my kind of beer! It’s very good, though not great, all around.

Deep amber color with a somewhat lumpy, inconsistent head. Aromas of pine and fruit cocktail. The taste is very good, toasty caramel layered over with pine, fruity, and oak notes. Creamy rich body. A lot of fruitiness on the finish with more woody notes coming through late. Distinctive without being outrageous. Recommended.

(Bottle). Tangy citrus aroma. Beautiful mahogany color with thin head. Flavor is fruity and medium sweet, lots of apricot/citrus tanginess. Somewhat bitter finish.

12oz bottle: pours dark amber brown with long lasting off white head, aroma slightly hoppy with some hints of malt, flavor like a srong pale ale with hints of oak and caramel. not over the top in any way i dont see how its so arrogant but it is what it is pretty good.

ttled. A dark amber beer with a dark orange head. The aroma is extremely hoppy which gives it strong notes of grapefruit, but it also has strong notes of alcohol. The flavor is sweet malty with strong notes of caramel and grapefruit, and only hints of vanilla, leading to a dry bitter end. The oak can be a tad astringent, but it also adds a nice softness to it.
