Smell coffee and nuts. Hints of plum as time goes by. Dark brown color, deep blood color when held to light. Drinks thick, but the taste is very creamy. Not a lot of carbonation either. It doesn’t have the bite people generally expect from a brew this dark. mullet2007 (206), St. Johns, Newfoundland, Canada
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Aug 13, 2008 Bottle thanks to IrishBoy! Pours a deep ruby red colour with hints of brown. Thick beige head. Nose is citrusy hops and dark fruit. Flavour is very much the same. Intense citrusy hops, with hints of oak. Much nicer as it warms up, it smooths out a bunch. Carbonation is sort of medium low, and it’s fairly creamy. Nice beer. tennisjoel (951), Shakopee, Minnesota, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Aug 12, 2008 Pour is red amber in color. Average head which reduces to a small ring, off white colored. Oak forward, caramel malts, cookie, and resiny hops. Nice flavor, quite complex with a woody finish. Nice beer although I don’t think I could drink a lot of these. I prefer the non oaked version, but this puts an interesting twist on the style. beergod (103), Austin, Texas, USA

| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Aug 12, 2008 A slightly translucent dark color with a nice, frothy head. The aroma is quite something. Some citrus notes there, grapfruit, and certainly plenty of sweet caramel. Flavor is hoppy and sweet. Very well balanced. There’s of course the nominal oak elements popping up, but they’re not as evident as they could be. Definitely some alcohol burn going on too. Nice and smooth body. All right beer, but I think a stronger oak presence could make it better. shadowaeb (11), , California, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Aug 11, 2008 12oz. bottle pours a deep amber with light carbonation yeilding a beige-ish head that receeds fairly quickly. Great lacing on glass. Aroma is citrus tart with an undertone of maltyness, and just a little oak. The beer is a bit lightly carbonated, but feels velvety on the tongue. hops and malt are welded together by the oakiness, mellowing out a bit and gaining a few dimensions. resin, citrus, and sugar cookie, with an oaky finish. Nice and strong too! Delirium (502), Santa Cruz, California, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Aug 11, 2008 Bottle. Pours clear dark brown with a moderately sized, foamy tan head. Aroma is grapefruit and wood, an odd combination of very hoppy and very oaked. Flavor is quite hoppy, mainly grapefruit with a little pine, with some sweet caramel malt in the background, and a bit of vanilla in the finish. A hop-head’s beer, but well done, and the oaking rounds out the otherwise somewhat weak malt structure a bit. marchcow (664), Coralville, Iowa, USA

Flavor is sweet fruity with a bitter woody balance. Some bitter hoppyness. Rich and smooth palate. Creamy with a bitter oaken duration. Well balanced and tasty.
