Aroma is cascade hopped with a hint of something stale. Not repugnant but a little off. Smooth mouthfeel, medium bodied. Flavors are a nice blend of caramel malt sweetness and just enough hops to make things interesting. A pretty good APA. StewardofGondor (1934), Washington Heights - Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA

| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Feb 7, 2005 (12 oz bottle: Obtained in trade with atpayne, thanks Adam!) This has the sad misfortune of following the magnificent Oskar Blues Dale’s Pale Ale in my tasting session, and while it would be quite a feat to equal that fantastic beer, Gnaw Bone falls several femurs short. It’s lightly malty, grainy and mildly sweet, with the moderately bitter and citrusy hoppiness showing more assertiveness on the back end. Balanced nose shows a mild sweetness, orange citrus and a floral hoppiness. Pretty dry on the palate, with a fairly crisp finish. Bright golden amber in color and fairly hazy, with a fair amount of small particles that are somewhat obscured by the haziness. Good size head is off-white in color, settles to a thin layer, but leaves a fairly dense curtain of ornate lace on the glass. Seems pretty average and routine for the style. argo0 (6985), Washington DC, USA

| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 11/20 | Dec 11, 2004 Golden amber ale with no head. Very nice citrusy aroma with light malt overtone as beer warms up. Very watery malty beverage with enough hops to keep you interested but lacks in character and body. | 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Oct 30, 2004 Nice clear amber/gold body, white soapy head. Dry citrus hop aroma with perfume and astringency notes. Perfumey taste to... pretty bitter, and not much malt. I tend to like "brighter/fresher" hops in APAs, and this to me is too bitter. It would be good to balance with some food, but by itself it isn’t exceptional.
