Commercial Description:
Brewed with fresh Oregon Raspberries, Razz has a slightly sweet flavor and clean refreshing finish to quench even the biggest thirst. Unlike syrupy impostors, Razz balances the crisp, citrus-like tones of wheat malt and the tartness of the berries-without overpowering the natural flavor of the beer.

I sampled this by stealing from my girlfriend. Not a bad raspberry beer. This actually tastes like beer unlike most attempts. Solid brew, with good raspberry flavor but not overpowering. Not my favorite, but I would imagine many women drinkers would enjoy this (not trying to mean).

Poured from a 12oz bottle and served in a shaker. This beer poured a hazy pinkish red with a good-sized light pink head that quickly faded away. Some very faint, slippery lace was left behind. The aroma of the beer was made up of sweet and tart notes of raspberries, with just a hint of wheat malt sneaking in. The flavor included a mild and not to sweet raspberry tartness, along with some other light citrus and wheat notes. The mouthfeel was light-bodied with quite a bit of fizzy carbonation. Overall, this was a pretty decent fruit beer. It didn’t have the typical artifical flavor and over-the-top sweetness that ruins other examples. Nice and refreshing.

12 oz bottle pours a plum hued body with a small pink head. Odd looking. Subtle aroma of raspberries and lemon hints. Light body with aggressive carbonation. Taste is restrained. Raspberry is understated. Some tart lemon and wheat cracker. Decent fruity summer beer that is not overly sweet.

6/12/2007: My wife says that Oaken Barrel Razz-Wheat is "the color of the flesh of a ruby-red grapefruit and has a big-ass pink head." yes, she really did say "big-ass"... I think she is right, but would add that the appearance is also quite murky with some foaties (my guess is that they used raspberry puree) and the head is really loose foam like cotton-candy. The aroma is sweet raspberry. The flavor has more citrusy wheat than raspberry. It is semi-sweet and the raspberry is pretty faint in the flavor. Actually, the commercial description is quite accurate: "Unlike syrupy impostors, Razz balances the crisp, citrus-like tones of wheat malt and the tartness of the berries-without overpowering the natural flavor of the beer..." This beer has a medium-light body and is pretty soft and smooth on the palate. Not great, but not that bad either. It is quite refreshing actually. My wife liked it, but did say that it wasn’t sweet enough for her.

Girl beer. My wife liked it. Cloudy rasberry. Not comlex at all. Not bad though.

Bottle. Aroma sugar raspberry, touch of wheat. Opaque ruby-pink (closer in hue to, say, a rose than grapefruit pulp) body with an ephemeral pink-tinged beige head. Thin body has some biscuity and wheaten notes with faint tart raspberries the (barely) strongest of the flavors. Fairly dull in the mouth, and the carbonation resembles that of ginger ale. Wheat lingers in the aftertaste, but that’s it. No sign of alcohol. A relatively pleasant drinking experience with a lack of glaring flaws, but there’s little substance here.

12oz bottle pours pinkish in color with a short fizzy white head. Aromas of raspberry, and some yeast. Flavor is raspberry, grains and a little yeast. Fizzy overcarbonated palate doesn’t make this any more attractive.
