Commercial Description:
This robust ale is dark, rich, and chewy. Somewhat bitter with a big and chocolatey malt flavor, the Snake brings the kind of flavor that drinkers of single malt Scotch or straight black coffee appreciate.

Poured from a 12oz bottle and served in an English pint glass. This porter poured near black with a one-finger thick head of dark tan foam that quickly settled down into a thin layer. Thick lacing coated the entire glass. The aroma of the beer was made up of creamy chocolate and coffee notes. The flavor consisted of mild chocolate and roasted malt notes, lightly bitter coffee, and just a hint of a hope bite. The mouthfeel was medium-bodied with a good dose of carbonation. A very solid effort.

bottle - Pours near black with a thin head. The aroma is of roast malt and chocolate. This full bodied beer is mildly bitter and has a nice dark roast malt and chocolate flavor going for it. It’s a very solid porter.

9/20/2007: Snake Pit Porter is very dark brown with a froth tan head and residual crown. There is some coholate and molasses in the aroma. The flavor is rich molasses with some roasty chocolate in the background. It become more dry in the finish. The body is medium-full and smooth. This is a very flavorful and satisfying porter. It is pretty robust, but not so much so that it would frighten people away.

12 fl. oz. bottle (O.G. 14° P) from tish. Rating #32 for this beer...

12oz bottle acquired in trade with OhioDad (thanks!). Poured a dark brown color with an averaged sized tan head. Aromas of stronger chocolate, cocoa, caramel, roast, and a trace of coffee. Tastes of roast, chocolate, and coffee. Lacing left on the glass. As good looking as this was and as good as the aroma, the tastes were a little bit of a let down.

Bottle. Strong aroma of dark chocolate and medium-strong roast. Touch of lactose. Opaque black pour with a soapy and rocky light brown head. Robust roasty taste, light coffee beans with light nuttiness and a firm dose of dark chocolate. Light-medium bitterness. Citrus and hops noticed on the crisp exit. Thin body. Chocolate and roast aftertaste, mostly dry with some lactose. Flavorful and easy-drinking.
