Aroma is lacking somewhat, but i can feel the hop resins and toffee malt character trying to be goose island IPA. Taste is initially malty, toffee, then the bursting citrus hop resin kicks in, followed by caramel and lychee flavours in a bitter finish. Excellent beer. Infact i recon in better condition that i put it in myself, outstanding. imdownthepub (5147), Banbury, Oxfordshire, England

Another great beer from Oakham, darker roasted then regular hoppy beers with a smokey note to the malt, fruity and beery!. Aparantly this uses Japanes hops along with a mix of cluster and Amarillo and it really does showcase the hops well, orange and kiwi fruit to me. I loved this one too. Aroma is soft and lightly earthy. A bit of orange marmalade, toast and sweetish UK malts. A bit of soft fruitiness in the nose as well. Very British with a soft saltiness to the malt character. It isn’t really all that good. A bit of dustiness and a lightly cardboardy oxidized notes. Meh. maeib (4735), Wootton, Northampton, Northamptonshire, England

An amber coloured beer with a loose white head. The aroma is spicy and almost grassy. No doubt hoppy. The taste has a good malt backbone behind some sharp grapfruit notes and a little spiciness. Another tasty offering from Oakham. bhensonb (4289), Woodland, California, USA

Smoth, near medium in body, andno real carbonation. Starts with very well balanced lightly roasted malt and floral/fruit bitter. Finishes pretty dry, yet mildly fruity with fruit/floral hop. It’s good to be in England (in S.F.). FatPhil (3477), Espoo, Finland

Fairly deep red, thin head. Rather odd combination of aromas. Tropical fruits and a light smoky or dusty component. Grapefruity citrus and lychees in the taste, as well as a decent beery body, of course. Hoppy and sweet; powerful but quite well balanced. Classic Oakham hoppy brew. Punchy citrus hits you with a left hook, then the bitterness which coats your tongue and hangs around for ever delivers a devastating right uppercut. Your left reeling before that long, long, hoppy tropical fruit finish delivers the body blow. Oakham don’t do things by half this is great, the Japanese Sorachi Ace hop along with American duo of Amarillo and Cluster hops provide one very interesting beer. | 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Apr 3, 2008 Cask at Redlight Redlight. Wow, this is different and unexpectedly good! Pours a dark burnt-orange amber color with a foamy, creamy, off-white head. The foam shows excellent retention, leaving thick, foamy rings of lacing on the glass. The nose showcases the new hop varietal, Sorachi Ace, which is definitely an off-the-wall example. Freshly sliced Florida oranges hit the nose first, with creamy lemon chiffon, toasted bread, caramel, and candied citrus rinds all showing strong. The flavor displays a toasty, malty, bready background, while still allowing the funky citrus hops to shine. Finishes short and sweet, with fading citrus hops. Substantial, smooth, creamy body. Very easy to drink. So much better than your average, boring English bitter. This is what a session beer was meant to be. Great job Brent on procuring this rarity!
