Cask gravity at Pig’s Ear. Amber colour with thin off white head. Nice American hop aroma, grapefruit. Bit of Turkish Delight fruit. I love it, but then again, I would as I love this brewery. Great tangy grapefruit hop finish. Best cask beer of the day for me and it was my first.

A Mes rate: cask at the Market Porter. Always a pleasing event to find an Oakham beer I’ve not had. This little beauty did not disappoint at all. Typically lovely clean gold Oakham looks with an excellent bright white head and glorious condition. Huge grassy and resinous hop snout with a perfect level of delicately sweet biscuit malt underneath. Christ this is good. Tastes like a US IPA. Loads of chewy resinous hoppage, slight ethanol and rubber from the booze and greenery combo and a stunning supporting role from some thick but never sticky malt. Bitter and dry in the finish. Just how I like it. Thank Oakham for high quality cask ale. It’s got the lot. Bags of flavour, more character than a multi-skilled impressionist, drinkability and brimming with sex appeal. Did I just say that? I should bloody coco! Lovely :)

Counting house. As soon i saw this i knew i was in with a winner. Aroma is bursting with citrus grapefruity and mandarin zest, hints at pepperyness and biscuity malts. Taste is nearly an attack on the tougne to start with, zesty, bitter citrus goodness and a bit of pale malt character to help it along. There was small mhints of wetherspoons cellar in this, otherwise it would have got over a 4.

Cask@Pigs ear BF 06. A nice hoppy one. Lots of grapefruit and lychee flavours coming through. Finish is dry and bitter, and lasts. This beer is all about the hops, lots of juicy, fruity hop flavours. Like it a lot.

Cask Conditioned at The Brewery Tap, Peterborough, Cambs. Golden beer with chunky white head. The scene for this latest triumph in beer hunting was the enormous Brewery Tap for Oakham, which despite its size is comfortable and informal. A sudden spring shower beat against the windows and Bob Marley was doing his stuff on the tannoy. ’Do you feel love’ he sang and yes I felt loved by this tasty hoppy beauty. Hop sweet, fresh and dry with spicy grapefruit notes. This is a delicious beer in my book, lasting bitterness with a full body. And Bob wailed on in the background, sensational!!

Cask (gravity dispense), Pigs Ear Beer Festival, London, December 2006. Golden colour, tending towards amber. Flowery aroma with a light, biscuity malt accent. Fruity on the palate with lashings of tangy hops. Orange and grapefruit to the fore. Perhaps not quite as intense on the palate as on the nose. Sharp, clean and crisp mouthfeel, but juicy too. Lasting, hoppy finish with lingering resinous bitterness and zingy otange zest. Has all the Oakham trademarks, and exceptionally well executed.

Cask @ Market Porter, Borough. Pours a clear pale amber color with a small off-white head. Fruity malty and slightly hoppy aroma. Sweet malty with a slightly floral hoppy flavor. Long malty bitter finish.
