Commercial Description:
Cask; Regular. Originally a summer seasonal but now permanent. Also available bottle conditioned.
Clean and crisp with a fruity aftertaste. The use of Saaz hops gives this lager a citrus finish that lingers on.

Cask at Merton Summer Beer Festival 2005 (retrospectively added from diary notes) This is a cracker, nice crisp clean taste, very refreshing, stunning hop aroma. Popped into the brewery 3-4 weeks before this beer festival, found them to be a wonderful bunch of very dedicated individuals.

Brewed with lager yeast, but a dead ringer for a premium bitter. Some carbonation, and the secondary fermentation keeps the beer alive and well. Liberal use of English hops gives a fine lingering bitterness. Great stuff!

A Mes rate: Gravicask at Ealing Beer Festival.
Bright gold, a good white head and excellent condition. Tangy malt aroma well balanced by some spicy ginger hops. Equally tangy flavour bit this time from some glorious tangerine and peach hoppage. Good earthy malt base. Kick of sweetness just before it is booted out of the way by a surprisingly good bitter finish. Far and away the best cask lager I have had, very impressed. If only there were more beers like this, maybe there would be less InBev in the world...

Cask at GBBF 08. Golden yellow with great condition, this has a strong grapefruit and peach aroma. It’s almost too fruity - it has almost the intensity of a fruit vinegar. Very bitter and refreshing, this is a very good lager and extremely drinkable. To echo Mes’ comment, if only macro lager brewers made stuff as good as this.

Bottle. Bright gold with a small head. Aromas are buttery caramel and citrus with sweet fresh, floral hops. Flavours are sweet malts with hay and biscuit. Bitter, sweet grapefruit with fresh zesty hops and marmalade fruitiness. A great bottle conditioned beer.

Grassy hop aroma. Light gold colour. Mildly fruit flavour, decent hoppy bitter finish. Great summer ale.

I’ve generally been impressed with Oakleaf beers and this one is no exception. Calling it a pale lager doesn’t really do this beer justice. I can understand why brewers want to make lager comparisons to lure the summer drinkers but I’m not convinced that many of the UK "cask lagers" are really lagers in the traditional sense. And this one has too high a hop profile to compare with the insipid beers that tend to fall under the pale lager style. The aroma is grassy and herbaceous. More fruit on the palate - peaches and apples maybe. Quite dry and very fresh. Very refreshing. Cask gravity dispense), Ealing Beer Festival 2005.

Gravity cask @ Hants Bowman, Dundridge. Fresh grassy, peppery hops and apricot aromas. Lively zingy body with malt and ironically a big bitter finish.
