MrBunn (826), Western, Pennsylvania, USA Jul 14, 2008 Bottleed as Obolon Krepkoe... 500 ml. Pours a transparent gold/orange with a bit of a head that dies quickly. Aromas are fairly decent... sweet malt and fruit tones. Flavor is a departure from this, however as it is a bit on the rough side. Still, there is a nice fruit presence and some malt sweetness that are far more pleasant than my last "malt liquor experience." Malt makes itself known as a honey-like sweetness and the fruitiness is more of a mixture of oranges and cherries. There is a little bit of an alcoholic warmth and from time to time it comes through a little too strong in the flavor. I’m a little surprised by all of the bad ratings... maybe I got a good bottle... maybe I’m blind to certain defects... Eructoblaster (1252), Gatineau, Quebec, Canada Jul 11, 2008 Bottle - 500ml. Golden body with thin white foamy/bubbly head. Its malty/sweet aroma carries wet socks hints. Taste is watery and finish non-existent. Bad and useless rocketfuel. The aroma does at least give a vague indication that this might be beer. Has a tang to it - not a very good taste, alcoholic - slightly unpleasant, but not unexpectedly so. It’s a load of krepkoe... I do like other Obolon beers, so this lets the side down. RblWthACoz (959), Brooklyn, New York, USA Sep 15, 2007 Pours a slightly hazed gold with a sizeable white head. Nose is muted with a slight sugary tone. Flavor is a heavy sweet that is constant and steady. It never falls off or drifts to something else. Feel is decent. Small amount of bubble and a thicker body that borders on being syrup like. Pretty damn drinkable I thought. I read the other reviews and I am kind of surprised. I don’t understand how I could appreciate this one so much when it was not so well received by others. Sure it is a lager, but I could go for this one quite a bit as I felt it was pretty well done. Maybe since I bought it at a decent place that probably gets them right off the boat it was fresher and impacted my tasting accordingly.
natali (27), Ukraine Mar 29, 2007 Head is too small, diminishing. Body is clear medium yellow. Aroma is moderately malty (toasted grain, husks), , with a light note of chemicals. Flavor is sweet but bitter in the end. Medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation.
