omhper (10438), Stockholm, Sweden Apr 29, 2008 Updated: Jun 12, 2008 Cask at Akkurat, Stockholm. Nearly entirely black. Aroma of tobacco and roasty coffee. Fairly sweet with soft mouthfeel. Mild, yet flavourful. Coffee is evident, but on a highly balanced level, just accompanying the chocolate flavour from the roasty malt. Very quaffable despite the mouthfilling flavour. A brilliant cask porter!
Svesse (1676), Hässelby, Sweden Aug 18, 2008 (Cask at Akkurat, Stockholm, 16 Aug 2008) Black colour with frothy, pale brown head. Malty, roasted nose with notes of coffee and cocoa. Roasted, malty taste with coffee, dark chocolate, cocoa and dark fruit. Mainly coffee in the finish. Body slightly below medium, mainly dry. Nice porter with a distinct coffee bite. thomat (555), Göteborg, Sweden Aug 1, 2008 Dark brown with a medium brown head. Rosted and coffee tones. Malt, roasted coffee taste. Medium body with a shrt, dry aftertaste. Marsiblursi (1400), Göteborg, Sweden Jun 18, 2008 (Draught) Pours black with a medium brown head. The aroma is a well balanced mix of coffee and malt roast with a rather dry sting. Undertones of sweet liquorice, light sweet and subtle dark fruits, dark chocolate, dark syrup, blackberry jam, wet gravel, juicy rye bread and some hops (maybe grass, herbs and orange). The flavour is of mild coffee, cocoa/chocolate, mild blackberry jam, liquorice, some rye bread and light hops. Light sweet and light to medium bitter. The mouthfeel is soft and light creamy. The finish is light hoppy, light roast/coffee dry and light sourish. Light to medium bodied. Very well balanced for something with Java in the title.
ekstedt (1792), Göteborg, Sweden May 22, 2008 Draught at the Rover, Göteborg, Sweden. Black with creamy beige head. Roasted, slightly sourish malts, with clear but yet discrete coffee notes. Quite light in body, soft carbonation. Dry and bitter, and acidic. I agree with the previous rater that it would have been much better without the sourness. Jonte (370), Gothenburg, Sweden May 20, 2008 On-tap at The Rover, Gothenburg. Black color with a creamy pale brown head. Aroma of roasted malt, coffee, and sourish/acidic notes. Roasted taste with notes of coffee, bitter chocolate, dark berries, licorice, light citrus and sourish/acidic notes. Long, roasted and dry finish. Very nice porter, but a little more coffee and a bit less sourish taste would have scored it higher.
