jimrockford (49), San Diego, California, USA Jun 9, 2006 On tap at The Port: Seems to be a Belgian Mild Ale yet no description is avail here
Aroma: Hoppy floral and slight grainy
Appearance: Fairly clear with big foamy head
Flavor: Slight sweet intial and then malty very subtle floral hop flavor slightly fruity
Mouthfeel/Palate: Nice mouth coating malty touch of sweetness in palate with tart crisp finish
Overall: Nice change from the hop juices out there, very very quenching and clean. I wanted to gulp this beer over and over…excellent beer
anaheim1983 (111), Anaheim, California, USA Apr 21, 2006 At Pizza port, This pale was all about the malt, malt in the nose and malt in the taste nutty, grainy, along with some residual sweetness, hops came through slightly in the finish to help this beer finish without the dense malt profile. A very well made beer with dimension in mind. BückDich (4793), McCall, Idaho, USA Apr 4, 2006 Draught at Pizza Port Carlsbad Light misty pale gold, bronze color with no head and light lacing. Nose of sweet malts, a really nice sweet hop and caramel thing that’s hard to explain. Umami? I don’t know. Like some kinda of sugarish smell. Maltose? Fuck if I know. The flavor has a bit of the grainy husky notes along with this similar sweetness. Finishes dry and hoppy. A bit of acedylhide and odd chemical metallic notes but it’s pretty good. sandygoonie (27), Seattle, Washington, USA Mar 24, 2006 Was a pain to find this on Rate Beer it is not a Pizza Port beer but obviously Ale Works. Frank is Purciel is not their beer. Anyhoo a cool modern brew copper colored, frim creamy head that lasted 4 ever. Not much hop flavor dominated by malt flavor and aroma. Exceptionally smooth medium body and crisp dry finish chargerfanjess (116), San Diego, California, USA Mar 21, 2006 Apparently brewed by a local high school teacher who also owns Oceanside Ale Works. Very Clear Pale Amber to copper in color pitcher filled to top 64 oz. When poured into glass nice one finger thick tight head that laced to glass all the way down. Very little hop aroma but loads of malty aroma. Light on the carbonation made it very easy to drink!!Not too thin and not too viscous, nice overall palate. Extremely complex malt not bitter and not sweet as the malt complexity suggests. Finished clean and crisp. Very nice drinking beer. Have before a Wipeout or an IPA to notice the subtle balance.
