Gusler (2656), Tucson, Arizona, USA Nov 7, 2007 The beer emerges from the 500ml bottle a pale straw color the generous white head that fades quickly, leaving a slight coating of lace upon the glass. Nose is sweet malt, perfumed, not much else, start is cloyingly sweet, fair malt presence, top light. Finish has a benignant acidity, the hops understated, quite light and to sweet, needs some body.
tangentrider (122), USA Jun 25, 2008 Pale beer with a creamy white head and a malty sweet-salty aroma. Flavor is cereal and flowers. It seems a bit watered down, though flavor is still present. Finish has a bit of hop bitterness--a very small bit. Not bad. Not good. But interesting. I’ll likely not buy it again, but I’m glad I tried it. Tranquillity (1027), Espoo, Finland Jun 3, 2008 Pale lager colour.I’m not sure what cat urin smells like at the moment, but I think this might be pretty close, especially at this temperature. The taste is... vanilla and hay. FatPhil (1960), Espoo, Finland Jun 3, 2008 500ml bottle.
Pale gold, small white head. Smells like a cheap and nasty pilsner.
Fizzy in the mouth. Harsh metallic hop extract taste. Slightly papery, and perhaps dusty, too. Even though its only 4%, it still had an alcoholic edge to it. Theres some rotten fruit to it too. Has a few occasional nice tastes, but theyre dwarfed by the less
pleasant ones. Hardcored the whole bottle though, in case I became inured to the nastier aspects. Hmmm - I did. The taste softens once you can ignore the metallic hops, and becomes creamier, more
vanilla-like, and almost buttery in places. Still not what Id
call tasty though. hapjydeuce (522), Carlsbad, California, USA May 23, 2008 Bottle from BevMo, a completely random purchase solely out of curiosity. This might be the first authentic Russian lager I’ve tried. Label is in English, Ochakovo Zhiguliovskoye Golden Beer. Unpleasant aroma of sweet corn porridge, rice and spoiled green apples. Taste is rather sweet, and it really could have been much much worse. It is actually somewhat refreshing. Floral juniper and grass stands out. Heavy cardboard and cereal note on the palate. Watered down and extremely simple. Blecch. posikyle (149), USA May 15, 2008 I actually quite enjoyed this. This was very good for a pale lager. Beautiful gold color, foamy head, very light and nice taste . I thoroughly enjoyed this after a hot day at the marina. My only complaing was that it was a little over carbonated. Would definitely buy again.
