Beer poured a hazy medium-dark brown color with a small, frothy, off-white, mostly and quickly diminishing head. The aroma is malty with moderate notes of toasted grain; hoppy with light notes of herb and moderate notes of grapefruit and resin/pine; yeasty with moderate notes of dough; trace notes of peach. The flavor was heavily sweet and moderately bitter with a long, moderately bittersweet finish. Strange, squeaky, unclean taste in the finish. Piny retros. Aroma is lightly to moderately malty (cookie, caramel), moderately hoppy (grapefruit, resin).
Flavor is heavily sweet, lightly acidic, lightly to moderately bitter.
Finish is moderately sweet, lightly to moderately acidic, moderately to heavily bitter.
Medium to full body, watery/syrupy texture, lively carbonation, lightly to moderately alcoholic.
Underwhelming and rather disjointed (the malt and hops seemed to clash with each other and fight for dominance rather than work in harmony). A work in progress, I would assume. Aubrey (2774), Denver, Colorado, USA

It was like an amped-up 90 Shilling ... with an extra dose of hops, perhaps, to make up for the big malts. Appearance was murky brown. Texture was thickish and somewhat chewy, with a mildish carbonation. Nice hints of chocolate, dark toast and brown sugar. Hops were healthy (grassy and earthy), contributing a fair amount of bitterness. Flavors were decent, but aromas didn’t seem very complex. Overall, enjoyable to drink, but not too exciting.
