Commercial Description:
Care for some hops with your hops? Before we ferment our 5 Barrel Pale Ale, we strain it through a bed of 'em. Then while it ages, we add even more. We like how this gives the beer a fresh, lively finish. We like hops.

As we go about refining the recipe for each new beer, we brew up just five barrels at a time. That's exactly how we arrived at this pale ale -- so that's what we named it. Plus, it sounded a lot nicer than Giant Vat Pale Ale.

Five times the fun. Pours a lighter brownish copper color with orange hues, especially when held to the light. A frothy off white head and limited lace. Both dissipate over time. The smell has lighter malt aroma with some grainy and generic malt bill. A nice noticeable hops aroma with some US and English characteristics. The taste is hoppier for a Pale. A basic malt backing with English notes but relatively boring. Some light caramel and biscuity flavors are noticeable if you look for them. A good bite at a citrus flower taste but quickly subdues with more earthy tones. For a English ale, its too bright and for an American ale its not enough. There is a smoothness to the beer as pleasant. Kind of surprising for its limited taste. A good carbonation that isn’t too much or too little. Overall this is a decent session beer.

Bottled. Fresh, flowery, fruity hop aroma with doughy, biscuity, faintly sweet malts in the background and hints of cedar. Medum copper color, clear, with a fine, lasting, creamy head and densely spotted lace. Hoppy, lightly citric, bitter and fruity flavor, progressing toward a balanced finish as some toasty, lightly sweet maltiness appears to mingle with the green, leafy hop and light, almost pear-like fruitiness. Finely effervescent and refreshing palate with a medium body.

citrus and banana on the nose. Nice clear amber, head is thick and lasts. Nice balance. Finishes just a little thin. Very decent, easy-drinking Pale Ale.

Bottled, BB 11/16/08. Poured clear medium orange with a short cap of beige head. The aroma was quite nice.. juicy grapefruit and English toffee with deeper-rooted notes of earth and pine.. transitioned to darker toffee sweetness around the middle. The flavor began with a mixture of medium-skinned fruits with toffee.. caramel washing over the middle not long afterward.. sweeter yet over the back, with low-to-moderate earthy bitterness surrounding.. OK balance, and a decent flavor profile. Light-medium bodied on the palate with lower carbonation.. sweet and sour contrasts on the finish. Nice enough to drink, but meh.

Chill hazed amber body with a small offwhite head. Good lacing. Aroma is earthy hops with a pine and rind edge. Taste features some toasty caramel balancing out the earthy and pine hops. Softer fruits emerge as it warms. Doesn’t seem very English but a solid and easy drinking pale ale here.

On tap. Poured a nice, light copper-orange color with a decent off-white head that left some lacing. Aroma is mostly citrus hops, but there is also a nice pine presence. Nice fruity, slightly resiny flavor to compliment the nose. Good carbonation that is crisp and inviting. Pretty nice beer.

Very pleasant hoppy aroma and flavor. Nice orange color that poured well. Good fruity, dry finish. Enjoyed two of these while watching a movie on my couch.
