Commercial Description:
Richer than most amber ales, 90 Shilling is smooth & deeply satisfying, with a crisp, clean Colorado taste. The name comes from the old Scottish method of naming a brewery's beer, based on original gravity and resulting tax rating.

As amber ales go, this beer has a stronger hop profile which is probably why I like it more that most. *cough* fattire *cough*

90 shilling is somewhat surprising. When you smell it, it smells malty, like you would expect from the style. When you drink it however, there is a distinct hop character, not aroma, character. It has a copper color, with a nice tan head. It is very drinkable and I really enjoyed the hops.

Pours brown with a little light tan head. Toffee aromas and flavors. Lightly hopped, clean. Not as syrupy-sweet as some Scottish ales, but quite filling. I can’t drink more than two in a row without feeling stuffed. Moderate finish with notes of butterscotch.

Draft @ Blue Bonnet. Pours in amber with a small off white head. Aroma is malty with notes of toffee and light hops. The flavor is more of the same. Although decidedly malty this beer does display some balance with its moderate hop flavors. Mouthfeel is medium and it finishes cleanly. A nice amber.scottish ale.

Pours amber with a decent head on it’s shoulders. Good head retention and lacing. Aromas of sweet caramel. Medium nectar with good carbonation. Mildly sweet and malty with peaceful bittering. It’s a watered down version of a Scottish ale with an almost crispness to liven it up and some biscuiting finishing up with faint traces of sweetness.

Bottle. Pours a light amber-brown with a thin tan head. Has a roasted malt, hop and smoke taste with a dry/bitter finish. The aroma is of smoke and hops. Pretty tasty, but is easy to drink as it is smooth. Pretty enjoyable, but it reminds me of Redhook’s Long Hammer IPA too much. Overall, there are better choices out there, which makes this a forgettable beer.

pours a nice ruby color with a great head. nicely hopped, but not overly so for the style, caramel and a hint of dark malt make this beer a nice flavorful beer that goes with plenty of different foods

TAP: @Barley’s. Nice amber color with medium-thick beige head, nice lacing. Aroma is thin but pleasant malt/hop. Taste is crisp, slightly dry palate without much complexity and short finish. Good to cool down with but not much more.
