Commercial Description:
Richer than most amber ales, 90 Shilling is smooth & deeply satisfying, with a crisp, clean Colorado taste. The name comes from the old Scottish method of naming a brewery's beer, based on original gravity and resulting tax rating.

Had in Avalance at Crested Butte. Copper head with a little head. Caramel and hops flavor, but only briefly....clean finish.

my fourth beer from this brewer and I found this one disappointing. not much flavor and quite watery. some peat noted in the aroma, but the extremely mild flavors of caramel, peat and grain fades much too quick.

Nice one finger head. Dark amber. Caramel nose with a hint of tobacco. Flavour is stronger than expected. Musty tobacco flavour and finish. Dark amber taste. Raw licorice root and hard piece of tobacco finish.

Sample from 12 ounce bottle at the Mondial, Montreal (May 2007). Clear copper with just a bit of lasting head, some lacing....indistinct, hazy aroma, perhaps some vague mild smokiness amidst wet, rather oily grains....body is dry and dull with mere hints of flavor, whispers of caramel and woody English hops show up then disappear quickly, fleeting, out of your grasp as you are desperate for flavor and eventually decide....next!

Good. Lots of spicy flavor. Maybe some cinnamon, brown sugar, allspice, chocolate and possibly even pumpkin flavors???? Would be a great thanksgiving brew.

Very coffee-like aroma that I wasn’t expecting. Coffee also present in the taste along with a pleasant hoppy bitterness. Very smooth finish with little bitterness in the aftertaste.

This beer pours a medium brown with a light head. The beer is relatively opaque. It smells a little hoppy and bitter. Not very much hoppy flavor at all after what I was expecting from the smell. A little malty. Tastes like a light brown ale. Kind of a middle of the road beer.

Malty in the nose. Not much to say about this beer. Little less hoppy than a pale. Flavour is enjoyable, but nothing to write about.
