Commercial Description:
Richer than most amber ales, 90 Shilling is smooth & deeply satisfying, with a crisp, clean Colorado taste. The name comes from the old Scottish method of naming a brewery's beer, based on original gravity and resulting tax rating.

12 oz bottle. .. Lots of malt - nutty and earthy. Minor hints of hops. … .. clear, dark amber w/ Off-white head. . . Malty with some earthiness. .. Medium body, med. Carbonation. .. A decent beer, true to style, but is a little lacking. . .

Bottle. Amberish copper color. Taste the malt right away, with a nice touch of hops. Sweet, caramel taste is there too. I was quite surprised by this one as I normally am so so with Scottish Ale.

Bottle from Mystery Swap 2.0. Hazy medium brown pour with 1-finger khaki head. Aroma of bready caramel malt, nuts, slight hops. Tastes caramel malty, but not richly malty, with some hops, mild tannins, slight almond and fruit notes. Not terribly complex.

Draught @ Falling Rock Tap House: Deep copper, fiery, moderate foamy off-white head, very nice lacing.   Seems like a Vienna malt on the nose, slight caramel, a bit roasty even.   Soft roasted malt tongue, fairly thick and rich, low hop profile.   Slightly nutty, but seems to be missing the peat and smoked aspect.   Warming, but no alcohol is noticed.   Very malty brew, but not that sophisticated.   Thick on the tongue, but a bit dissapointing overall.   Give me some Chub!

Bottle purchased in Omaha. Poured a light brown color with a weak head and poor lacing. The aroma was light roast and smoke over a coffee type base. The flavor was coffee, licorice, ash, and other roast flavors, a bit astringent or rough, though. Finishes with a little bit of a citrus hop zing, but the malty side of this one was a bit disappointing, coming off more like a porter than a scottish ale (where’s the peat?).

Floral hoppy nose on this very brown pour. Faint seaweed flavor in the body with more hops and some malt. Not too great.

Brown body. A slightly hoppy beer that really just doesn’t stand out. Maybe I would think of this as a better beer, but it was going up against some better competition and just fell a little flat. Nothing really offensive here, but not so memorable either.
