Commercial Description:
Richer than most amber ales, 90 Shilling is smooth & deeply satisfying, with a crisp, clean Colorado taste. The name comes from the old Scottish method of naming a brewery's beer, based on original gravity and resulting tax rating.

MN Winter Get Together, 2006: Dark gold color with no head. Slight hop aroma. Bitter taste (Goldings) with a dry malt body. It struck me as one dimensional and not really true to style. Weaker and hoppier than it should be.

Colour of spiced apple cider, or even a dark rum. Light aroma and taste. Malty with bananna and a finish of somewhat bitter hops.

Bottle shared with my firend Brian. Pours a medium reddish brown with an off white. Sweet malty aroma. Flavor of caramel, nuts, nuts, and a hint of tobacco. Just the right amount of sweetness. Very clean and smooth finish. This is one of the better American Scottish Ales I have had. Either that, or I was really drunk.

I really wanted to like this beer (there don’t seem to be enough good American craft beers of this style), and I mostly did. Nice deep copper color, nice malty aroma and taste. It definitely finished on the metallic side--great up fron and a little disappointing at the end.

2005 bottle. Mahagony color, lots of caramel, some fruit, toasty, on the sweet side. Finish is a little bitter. Thanks Drew.

This is an incredible Scottish Ale, straight out of Fort Collins. At the time of this review, I couldn’t give it good glass-pour treatment, so no head report, although the aroma is very malty and pleasurable. The before, mid, and finish are as smooth and as slightly-malted as you would expect from a great ale.

you guessed it amber fluid with an off white head. small notes of malt and flax in the nose. sweet slim roasted malt character and end notes of bitterness. average amber as most are.

This is one of my all-time favorites. Straight out of Ft. Collins comes one of the best brews in the state. Very unique hoppiness...smooth finish.
