Commercial Description:
Richer than most amber ales, 90 Shilling is smooth & deeply satisfying, with a crisp, clean Colorado taste. The name comes from the old Scottish method of naming a brewery's beer, based on original gravity and resulting tax rating.

Bottle. Pours a reddish amber but without much head. Aromas of fruit in the nose. Thick, creamy, lightly carmelized notes. Light for the style, but did not mind as I don’t typically enjoy scotch ales. This is very drinkable.

Certainly plenty of malt to go around in both aroma and flavor — as a Scottish style ale should have. Mostly sweet with fruit notes. Then there are the hops, present in both aroma and flavor and especially in the noticably bitter bite in the aftertaste. A good, flavorful brew with a nice balance between malt and hop, but I am not sure this is true to the style, though I would not hesitate to drink another.

12z bottle. Garnet hue with spotty off-white head. Sweet caramel malt nose with a slight note of citrus. Medium body and mouthfeel. Flavors are of caramel and slight coffee. Medium malt roast. Great bitter flavors from both the coffee aspect and from the hops. Weel rounded and balanced. Both the malts and the hops play a substantial part. For the first few sips, the hops were rather dominant, in the finish. As it comes to temperature, the hops mellow and the sweet malts permeate. I fell in love with this beer and the brewery about three years ago. This is a great beer and perfect for this time of year. (Winter in St. Louis). I do and will continue to recommend his brew to my friends and anyone else.

One of those beers with a great taste but doesn’t have the aroma and mouth feel to back it up. Definate ale with malty and slight creamy taste. Just enough hops to not allow sweet taste but not enough hop to give any bitterness. Solid good ale you wouldn’t be afraid to bring to a party but not the best you’ll ever have.

The bottle poured a clear dark amber colored beverage with an nice thick off-white head that was mostly lasting and left good lacing on the glass. The aroma was dominated by the presence of malt. It was like putting my nose in a bag of crystal malt. There was almost no evidence of hops. The body was medium-full with medium carbonation and a somewhat dry texture. The flavor starts off slightly sweet. It gains bitterness as it matures on the palate and the finish is long and warming.

Pour is Frothy off-white head and clear, brownish to amber body. Aroma has light malts, nice mild aroma hop, flowers, hints of resin and grapefruit. Medium body with sweetish flavor and soft carbonation, finish is metallic, but godd. One of Colorado’s finest in the style. Would benefit from a hint of smokiness or leather in the profile.

Dark amber with medium sized white foam. Light peaty aroma with clean notes of caramel and oranges. Soft malty flavour of caramel, peat, toffee and oranges. Malty toffee tones in the sweet finish.

Pour is a dark red with a white head. Aroma is malty and sweet. Flavor is a mix of malts and sweet dark fruits. Lots of woody and earthy notes make an appearance as well as some hops on the swallow. Been waiting to try this for awhile and i can say i was missing out on a tasty brew. Goes well with my cigar.
