Commercial Description:
Richer than most amber ales, 90 Shilling is smooth & deeply satisfying, with a crisp, clean Colorado taste. The name comes from the old Scottish method of naming a brewery's beer, based on original gravity and resulting tax rating.

Medium orange amber color. Large sized rocky foamy head. Aroma is malty, caramel and sweet. A medium bodied Scottish ale. Malts are fruity and sweet. Touch of bread and caramel. Hops are slightly grapefruity. Nice balance. Touch of peat. Very drinkable. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly bitter.

Pours a nice dark amber color with an off white head that leavws nice lacing. The smell is slight coffee, malt, sweet wood. The tast is malty, crisp and very drinkable. One of the best American ales I’ve tried. Would try again. In between a New belgium Fat Tire and New Belgium 1554 would be a good way to descibe it. So if you like those two, go for this.

Clear dark brown body, not much head. Brown sugar and wet wood in the aroma. Very unimpressive flavor for a "90 Shilling" beer - light peat-smoked sweet malt with woody-bitter hops. Fizzy mouthfeel.

Pours a brown/red amber color with a short lived almond colored head. Fair lacing. Tastes starts with a crisp hoppy and malt and a dry finish. Has a nice kick for what i think is an amber ale.

Nothing really special in the glass. If you had 100 beers at a tasting, this is one you’d surely forget. Scottish Ale? American amber. Caramel color with a short-lived head. Taste is a very modest amout of malt and hops. Finish is short and dry. Much better out there.

Just small traces of a head. The coloring is a medium amber. The aroma is roasted caramel and coffee. Also some hints of apples and high quality tobacco. The taste is The taste has some caramel and tart apples. A nice toasted peanut. This is decent brew.

Color is on the amber/copper side, under a huge head of foam. Aroma is on the dry side, soft, herbal, slightly floral, vegetal. Hops are minimal, malt is huge and thick. Taste is a little mellow for me, and a bit too sweet. Drinks well, slides easily down the tongue. Full, rich, malty mouthfeel, but a little too low on hops for my taste. A fine micro Scottish, but not for me.

Drank on Thanksgiving 2004 in Denver, CO. Draft at 1515 Market. Copper pour with medium white head. Roasted malt aroma, smells nice. Those malts are the first thing to hit you. Nice roasty start, sweetening through the middle and finishing with a creamy texture. This was a nice beer.
