| 2.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 2/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Aug 16, 2008 Dark amber pour, little head or lacing. Aroma wasnt’ good...like burnt cardboard. Flavor wasn’t as bad as the odor (which is what you call bad aroma). Dry, little sweetness with heavy malts (how did they keep the sweetness out?). I didn’t like this at all. Not worth finishing the bottle. dkachur (2373), Charlottesville, Virginia, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 12/20 | Aug 10, 2008 Bottle from a friend. Best by 11/23/08. Pours a clear ruby red with a medium head. Low retention and lacing. Fruity, malty aroma with a nutty note and some hop presence. Very malty and earthy taste. A green-apple, citrus fruitiness and light hoppiness. Full bodied. ilherps (226), Carbondale, Illinois, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 5/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Aug 6, 2008 This is a great scottish ale, with malty flavors of nuts and chocolate, but still with a hoppy side which gives you a nice balanced taste. The color is a great deep red, a very enjoyable beer. stchloe (492), Portland, Oregon, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 5/5 | 13/20 | Aug 1, 2008 Surprisingly complex, hoppy but well balanced with other grains and malts, creates a crisp dark ale. jgb9348 (2500), Arlington (Pentagon City), Virginia, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 11/20 | Aug 1, 2008 Deep hazy reddish amber coloured body with a large tan head - this one looks nice! Aroma of roasted malt, peanuts, pecans, caramel and a hint of smokiness. Medium-bodied; Strong roasty malt flavours with a heavy dose of nuts, caramel and pit fruits. Aftertaste shows more of the same with bitterness and alcohol around the corner with no complexity in the malt. Overall, a slightly one-sided beer that had the makings of a great beer when seen and smelt. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Goebel Liquors in Wichita, Kansas on 25-March-2008, sampled on 01-August-2008. soyorganic (217), Denver, Colorado, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jul 20, 2008 Tap: pours amber color. Malty taste with a hop compliment. Nothing too rememberful (actual word) but nice beer. I may have to re-rate this eventually. GarrettB (494), Seattle, Washington, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jul 17, 2008 Another one of the staples from O’Dell, found nearly anywhere in Colorado, or so it seems. This Scottish styled beer pours a deep and dark cranberry and plum color, with small islands of bubbles making up the whole of the tan head. The smell is abundant with well kilned malts, wood, smoked and pulled pork, fig, beef bouillion, grape flavored Kool-Aid and maybe a bit of deliciously moldy cheese. And yet despite these heavy flavors the taste is a little watery and even more delicate, with a re-appearance of the Kool-Aid, a handful of wet hay and a squeeze of pomegranate juice. The flavor is a little discordant but very full of simple Scottish flavors, again at a competitive price. shanepardue (107), Raytown, Missouri, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jul 9, 2008 Pours a slightly darker brown with a cream-colored head that doesn’t dissolve too quickly. The bottle reads that this was their attempt at lightening a dark beer and it definitely tastes that way. A little more flavorful and strong than an amber, yet not darkly bitter.
