Bottle. Pours a brown-amber with white lacing. Sweet aroma of malt, hops, some caramel. Taste is both sweet and sharp, of hops, and then changes to a combination of sweet and bitter. Mild lingering bitterness. Tasty.

Aug 16, 2008 Dark amber pour, little head or lacing. Aroma wasnt’ good...like burnt cardboard. Flavor wasn’t as bad as the odor (which is what you call bad aroma). Dry, little sweetness with heavy malts (how did they keep the sweetness out?). I didn’t like this at all. Not worth finishing the bottle.

Aug 10, 2008 Bottle from a friend. Best by 11/23/08. Pours a clear ruby red with a medium head. Low retention and lacing. Fruity, malty aroma with a nutty note and some hop presence. Very malty and earthy taste. A green-apple, citrus fruitiness and light hoppiness. Full bodied.

Aug 6, 2008 This is a great scottish ale, with malty flavors of nuts and chocolate, but still with a hoppy side which gives you a nice balanced taste. The color is a great deep red, a very enjoyable beer.

Aug 1, 2008 Deep hazy reddish amber coloured body with a large tan head - this one looks nice! Aroma of roasted malt, peanuts, pecans, caramel and a hint of smokiness. Medium-bodied; Strong roasty malt flavours with a heavy dose of nuts, caramel and pit fruits. Aftertaste shows more of the same with bitterness and alcohol around the corner with no complexity in the malt. Overall, a slightly one-sided beer that had the makings of a great beer when seen and smelt. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Goebel Liquors in Wichita, Kansas on 25-March-2008, sampled on 01-August-2008.
