Commercial Description:
Is a richly malted ale with the substantial fruitiness in aroma and flavor that you would expect in a Barley Wine. It has the least hop character of any beer we brew. The beer is deliciously smooth, and decidedly potent.

Beer pours a clear, medium caramel color with a small, white, frothy, mostly and rapidly diminishing head.
The aroma is malty with moderate notes of husky toasted grain, sweet cookie and caramel; hoppy with light notes of herb; malty with light notes of dough; moderate miscellaneous notes of candy sugar, light notes of raisin and sherry (teetering on cardboard).
The flavor is heavily sweet and lightly bitter with a long, lightly tangy, moderately sweet, moderately warm, lightly biter finish. Big date/raisin retros. The body is medium-to-full, the texture is syurpy and the carbonation is soft.

Earthy, grassy, herbal hops with coffee-like roastiness in the aroma. Hazy copper coloured body with a low white head that recedes to ring. Brown sugar, caramel and herbal hops blend nicely together leading towards a fair finishing bitterness that does not last. Somewhat stale toasty aftertaste. Medium body with fine bubbled, gentle, soft carbonation that caresses the tongue. Bottle sampled at DenverLogan’s GABF wrap-up.

In the bottle. 2004 vintage. A very dark amber color with no head. Woody aroma. Oak flavor with raisins. Big bubbles, strangely carbonated for the style. I like!

Bottle. Hazy tawny brown color with a ring of bubbles. Nose- raisin, alcohol, fig, grape, plum. Taste- bitter to the point of acrid on the back, malty (in that sweet malty kinda way), cardboard (not bad), some very light banana, toffe/caramel. They keep the sweetness in check, which is nice. The hops are only detectable in the bittering. Not bad, and I would call this an English style barleywine (although the malt bill leans a little on the American side). Very enjoyable in a mild barleywine kinda way. Peppery finish.
