Dry-hopped, but very well balanced aroma of jellied malts, juicy hops, pine sap, spruce, and caramel. Underlying herbal notes teamed with diacetyl and must. Smooth, fuzzy carbonation. Round mouthfeel. Sweet malts are balanced by faint bitterness, light acidity, caramel, tropical fruit, subtle spicy hops, candied white grape, and pine sap. Jellied malt flavors linger alongside hop oil and a zippy pine note. Extremely well balanced in every aspect. And what a wonderfully soft, round mouthfeel. Hands down among the best Pale Ales, if you can appreciate its subtleties. Dragonblaze99 (349), Greater London, England

The middle is firmly malty with a complex blend of flavors. Finishes malty. Long, lingering and complex aftertaste. Very pleasant ale indeed. Falconseye8 (525), Cartersville, Georgia, USA

Aroma is that of grapefruit as is the initial taste. A very nice interpretation of a Pale Ale. The hop bite feels like it is intense, but it really is more like highlighted or showcased. Very drinkable.

This is an English style pale ale, very mild and very drinkable, great for the style.

| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Sep 14, 2002 Orange-amber in color. Medium sized head settled to just a skim shortly after pouring. Aroma is pleasently hoppy with some caramel and a hint of citrus. Taste is a bit stronger than I was lead to believe by this APA’s aroma, not a bad thing, just a little surprising. It’s really more like an IPA in flavor and bitterness, but I was pretty impressed with this one overall. Beaver (598), Fort Collins, Colorado, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Aug 17, 2004 The Cutthroat Pale pours a copper orange with a pillowy white head that retains well and shows some lacing.
Its aroma is biscuity malt and grassy hops with some light citrus notes.
The flavor is slightly sweet caramel malts initially with a metallic bitterness and a crisp finish. The palate is very smooth and creamy and leaves a sticky residue.
Overall, a very nice, well balanced English Pale Ale.
