Not opaque, but impossible to peer through. The body is a quiet, deep, dark chocolate with underlying ruby hints. The nose is loaded with fresh cocoa and soft and complex roasted grains. Also noted are caramel, raisins, light smoke and hints of molasses. I love the complexity of the malt in this, with nods towards graham and light floral hops. The flavor is excellent. Chocolate is accompanied by raisins and other dark fruits, as well as vinous and even vanilla character. Sweetness is medium-high to high but the flavor and mouthfeel is so smooth it’s no burden at all - it’s actually complimentary and stresses the loveliness of the dark fruit. Bitterness is low, floral hops providing a unique perfumed outline to each sip and blossoming into an essence of dramaticism in the long and chocolatey finish. Caramel and raisin notes linger on. The mouthfeel is carbonated perfectly, flavor dispersion on the palate executed well. The body is medium and velvety.

Pours a deep brown-black, with some ruby glints coming on around the edges. Aroma is roasted grain, some smoke, mellow chocolate and a touch of dark fruit. Flavor begins with a roasty component, that seems to lead into a coffee like finish, the slightly bitter finish is bracing and refined.

Had this beer on 10/15/1998. Color is dark with a with a little amber to it. Aroma is a nice roasted scent. Starts with a medium body that goes down easy. Finish comes on with a light roasted flavor that gets stronger with a light bitterness.

Bottle: Black coffee in color, cola hues, moderate foamy off-white head, decent lacing.   Soft roasted malt nose, accents of chocolate malt and slight campfire/ash and peat.   Flavorful on the tongue, semi-sweet malts, some lactose sweetness, burnt edges, well rounded.   Very clean finish, crisp, with lingering roasted malts.   A minor lactose sweetness rides throughout the background.   Not as robust as other examples, but what they do have is well crafted.   Not overly bitter like many PNW examples, which is why I like this one even more.   Could stand to finish with a bit more umph, but I think this would make for a great entry beer into the Porter category for beginner beer enthusiasts.   Body is moderate, slightly creamy mouthfeel.   Purdy tasty!

Bottle. Poured a dark brown color with a moderate beige head that diminshed to a ring. Aroma of roasted malts with hints of chocolate and coffee. Sweet malts lead into a smooth roasted malt finish with a bit of chocolate and coffee. A bit more watery than I remember. Pretty simple, but smooth and easy to drink. A nice beer to have around when you don’t want to feel the alcohol after just a couple beers.

Bottle from BlackForest CO, Thanks!! Black with malty, chocolate, lite coffee aroma. Also has that stagnet water notes that their beers have. What causes that??!? Anyway, smooth on the palate with light sweetness and good roasted finish.

Brown-ale-ish porter. Pours fairly flat. Not too rich or deep in tone. I like Odell, but this is a fairly average or slightly above average beer. I want more coffee and chocolate in my porters.

Poured from a nitro faucet @ the brewery. Rich chocolate and vanilla with roasty aromas. Pours dark brown with a dense tan head. A little thin on the palate but good flavor. Good roasty flavors with some chocolate. A little lacking but good.
