Bottle. Pours with high carbonation that quickly loses its energy and settles into a black oblivion. Smoke, roasted malt, chocolate, and coffee are present in the nose. Flavor is roasted smoke that finishes with roasted chocolate beans. Mouthfeel is a bit thin; more like the feel of coffee on the tongue than a beer. Not bad; good for an impending South Texas "ice storm."

A 12 oz bottle with a freshness date stamped into the bottom of the label. The beer poured a dark all most black in color with a dark tan head. The smell is roasted malt and coffee. A taste of smoked and roasted malt, very earthy. A good carbonation with a strong coating in the mouth.

This beer has an almost two-finger thick, brownish tinged, tan colored head that sits atop a black beer. The aroma has a large roast grain driven character; notes of espresso, toasted bread, burnt toast, and burnt caramel all have a presence. A nice, smooth, lightly sweet chocolate note is also quite prominent; in fact that has a concentrated, dark chocolate malt ball note to it. In the end this has a huge aroma to it, it is large and pronounced and quite enjoyable.

Nice and thick on the palate as well; chewy, chocolate-like, malt sugars stick a bit to the palate, though this beer is in no way heavy. This finishes with a mix of roast-grain driven acidity and a solid bitterness that is both hop and burnt grain derived. Chewy notes of burnt biscuits (along with a bit of astringency), toffee, dark chocolate, and a mix of light and dark roast coffee bean notes.

Wow, I just checked out the alcohol on this; this beer drinks way bigger than it is, not because of the alcohol (which is quite hidden), but because of the concentrated malt flavors. I could have easily been convinced this was 8% alcohol. This is my kind of beer, full of flavor, yet ideal for a long session of drinking. This had the telltale signs of being a great beer simply by the fact that before I knew it my beer was gone.

12 oz bottle. Brown to black color with creamy tan head. Sweetish, mellow and pleasant aroma with coffee, chocolade and leather. Malty, biscuity and roasted flavor with coffee, chocolade, licorice and toffee. Soft and dry roast finish. Very good and complex roastedness.

From the beer of the month club. 12 oz. Bottle. Pours black with red highlights and nice tan head with good lacing. It has a nose of chocolate malt and roast. It has a smooth flavor of chocolate and coffee with a balanced bitterness. Well made beer.
